    Hello everyone,

Well my first post!  Folks, I'm considering buying a second hand 2005 Road King.  My only HD experience was a week of touring the  west coast of  USA on an Ultra Classic.   I commute a fair bit so an UC may be a bit much as a daily ride so i thought a RK may be the goods.  Any thoughts? Advice?  Better off buying a 2007/8 if one comes along?

My mechanical skills border on dangerous to machinery and my self!  Do HD's require a lot of fettling?  Expensive to maintain?  The bike is stock, what would people do for a little extra sound ( Not too much, my neighbours are nice ;) ) any mods that you would say are really necessary?  Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Pete

ps.  I remember back to my sports bike days when a HD was an over priced boat anchor blah blah blah.  This year I rode one.  Not the fastest bike, best handling and so on.  But I'm hooked.  Can't explain it really ,it just felt right.  Yes I'm one of those bloody converts AND LOVIN IT

Brother, why not go down to the local HD dealer and test drive one, and try a few more while your there...a HD is a personal thing, the bike will find you, depends if you want to cruise or tour, best of luck...and one more thing, you are hooked it will never go away until you own one. best of luck brother and welcome to the family...

I'd buy a Road King if I didn't live in the hills, and right in the middle of a heap of so called 55klms corners

I've got an 01 king and its the best damn thing I ever bought. Like any harley its hard to stop changing stuff just because I like too and to make it my own. Obviously any bike secondhand needs checking to be sure of what you are getting. Personally I don't think the new ones are any better either.

Thanks so much for the input.  The info on the valve seals was great.  They have not been touched so at least I know I may be up for a rew dollars.
