Sorry Everyone but this is a little of tangient.

The Income Protection Insurance be very  careful  with  and ffs read the policy.

I had it and when I needed it when my leg was stuffed during an accident on my previous bike I called the company dealing with my super.

Before I was able to make a claim I had to wait a minimum of 60 days. Then it wasnt the complete wages that where covered it was only 75% of my wage.

This caused us great difficulty,as some of you know my wife cant drive due to being Epileptic and with me out of action we had to rely  on others. I hate doing that and will try  everything in my power to not call other people to my aid.

Becasue of these conditions I ended up on disability payments from centrelink and they will have to be paid back once you are fit and well again. The payments where no where near what my wage was so My wife had to go on Newstart and actively look for work  so she could help withthe financials of the household. It was a major headache from my point of view especially since I wasnt to blame and my son and I where the innocents that suffered.

Anyways enough of this  but please becareful entering into this kind of policy. READ and understand the conditions.

In the end I am still alive and walking and riding . I guess what I was trying to say was Read READ READ and understand .I left it alone as I didnt think I needed it and when the time arose and I needed to use my claim I wasnt covered they way I though I was . But yes its way better than nothing at all. do your best to cover yourself and if going two up cover them too ... my son didnt get anything in the way of insuranc efor his damages as they where below the $15,000 threshold. Fortunately it wasonly a scare and some bark he lost and a bit of confidence. He wont get back on a bike now

thanks for the update Karl.... and it is really good to hear that Karen is now out of danger. Now the long road to recovery. Was in Freo yesterday... 12-2 with some ricer mates... just giving the eyeballs a good workout

As part of PerthStreetBikes which is another forum I am on... we have a number of funraising exercises under the guise of MAD... Make a Difference where we raise funds for Shents and UWA for spinal research. I think that our efforts last year reaised over $100K. Main event is a MAD Ride where we had 2000+ bikes last year plus raffled a Stoner replica Duc 999.....

That's great news Karl. Sounds like a long road to recovery.

I hope that in the not too distant future we can do a ride in her honour, possibly even visit as a forum group.

all the best to karen..This has happened to me also.. I was stopped in traffic, in the streets of Sydney, broad daylight... just sitting there with lanes of traffic each side and this dopey bitch just keeps going. I went up and into the car in front, bike went into the left lane, cars screeching all over the place. I was half under the car in front and her car almost over the top of me. I walked away, badly bruised and shaken, so very very lucky.. had I seen her coming I may have tensed up and braced myself, which may have made it worse.. who knows.. But I worry now all the time.. I flash my brakes at all stops in traffic, I move about in my seat.. whatever it takes for those few drivers who are just plain stupid to see me... But really there's not much prep work you can do for things behind you...as it turned out she was texting on a phone and didnt see the traffic had stopped. A witness saw it all..my prayers are with you Karen..Im also a female rider so hang in there sister... ck xx

Thanks for the update Karl, it's great to hear that Karen is on the mend and that both Steve and Karen have a good bunch of people around them for support.
Getting slammed up the rear end is one of my phobias, and there is a good tip above about pressing the brake light on ad off to attract attention.
Recently read an article where they recommend to have your bike in gear, with the clutch in, and your eyes watching that mirror, ready for that car that is about to wallop you from behind. I know I used to find neutral, and take the opportunity to stretch my legs and move about a bit when waiting for a long red light, not anymore.

Hello Everyone!   It's Karen here, who you've all been sending good wishes to.  I have borrowed Karl's lap top and I'm sat up in my Fremantle hospital bed having just caught up with you all on the Forum.   The last few weeks have been pretty awful, but I am on the road to recovery, be it a very long one!  I've been in theatre 7 times in nearly 5 weeks and the broken back, pelvis and ribs are repairing well.  I've recently had plastic surgery on my wounds, they've taken 1 and a half kilos of damaged tissue and inserted a special vac dressing to assist in the drainage of the remaining damaged tissue and aid the healing process, don't need to have liposuction now!!!!!!  We have had immense support from family and friends and can't thank you all enough for your kind words.  Unfortunately my beautiful matt black NiteRod Special has been totally wiped out!   Thanks again for all your good wishes, it was great to read them all and has kept me going, I'll be here in Freo for another 4 weeks and then rehab, plan to be walking by my 40th Birthday in August.
