Anyone tried the Crane 1-6000 cams in a 96"?

I was about to buy a set of Andrews 26H cams when I found this cam and the specs look great for a straight bolt in cam for a bagger - 33* intake close, 226 duration, 27 overlap,  .505 lift.

Anyone got any positive or negative feedback on these cams?

    Cheers, berms

Yeah, its kinda similar to the 204 but the 204 has more lift, more duration and more overlap making it more of a mid range cam.  If I was going to use the 204 I would have to use the 4* advance sprocket gear to give me more TQ down low and then that makes me think its maybe the wrong cam for me.

Yes, looked at all those ...... But the specs of the 1-6000 look like it has more potential??  Can't seem to find anyone who has tried it though......... I might just have to be the guinea pig

Berms were do they have the crane cams cam list and timing spec's up?

i remember Crane closed but i just did a search and seems S&S now own Crane. crane were good i still have the crane ignition in my twin cam been there since 01 also used crane valve springs from 01 up till two years back when i put some Bob Wood springs in i got given to me. they are good too.

good to see s&s keeping a company that makes good products going.

I got the specs from the Big Boyz camshaft comparator..... the cam is listed as the old Evo version (300-2) but from what I have read on various sites the 1-6000 is the same cam with the same specs just the "twin cam version".

Yes, Crane closed down, but I remember a bigger company taking them over - S&S maybe?  Crane had excellent products.

I've been using the Cranes for almost a year, and with the +4 gear I've been very pleased with the performance increase.  Has never been on a Dyno, but after extensive VTuning and slight mods to the Spark Tables have to say the Ultra seems to like these cams.  Power comes on early and doesn't fall off too soon.  99% of my riding has been 2-up since the wife loves riding as much as I do!

Chose these over the SE255s after conferring with HERKO, and have not been disappointed.  However, I would not hesitate considering the 255s!  Herko makes fantastic numbers with them!

Have also heard positive results on the Andrews 21/26 series.  IMO, for a simple bagger cam upgrade, anything with a 30deg Intake close or there-abouts will do fine in these heavy baggers.  However, if you do a lot of 2-up riding as I do, then definitely consider bigger bore and cams.

I've got a gut feeling that some of the manufacturers "might" be coming out with some new offerings in the near future.  Since the 96" has been around for a few years now, I can't imagine some of the major players not offering up some new designs.

    HTHs!

Hi WVULTRA,  thanks for the reply, it sounds like you are happy with the cams.  and with the + 4* gear it should give you plenty low end grunt

Yes, I reckon its about time some of the big names came out with some 96" specific designs..

WVULTRA,  considering I ride solo..... using just the HTC-300-2 cams with their intake close of 33* do you think I will have good TQ from right down low (1500rpm)???    or would you say I need the 4* adv gear to get better low end TQ?

Not sure any of these bottom end cams will come on at 1500rpm.  Gonna be closer to +/-2000 before you really start to feel it.

IMO, not using the +4 gear might be ok on a lighter bike; such as a Dyna or Softail.  But if your riding one of these heavy baggers, even solo, I would still consider the +4 gear.

There's some good info available at Big Boyz site using their Camshaft Comparator where you can see first hand what changes are made with the +4 gear:

    http://www.bigboyzheadporting.com/tccams.htm

You can look at the Crane HTC-300-2G which is the same cam, just gear drive.  Over on the right side is where you add the +4 under Cam Offset Deg.

Yeah thanks, +/-2000rpm is what I meant........... I was just trying to select a cam that didn't sacrifice any low end TQ for overall gains if you know what I mean

I dont really understand cams enough to know exactly what amount of  lift / duration / overlap / etc I need or what works best........  so I will probably just go with whatever is tried and proven like say the Andrews 21H or maybe even wait a bit longer and see what new designs come out.

    Cheers, berms.
