I am looking at getting some new rubber for my 06 FXDI Superglide.. Currently fitted with a Dunlop 401 on the front and a K591 on the rear.. Was thinking of giving the Metzeler 880 Marathons a go.. I dnt mind giving it a little bit of a go through the twisties and the Dunlop's dont fill me with confidence..

Any advice from the WISE  ,,, or any one else that has fitted the Metz.. what can you tell me.

    Cheers.. Wezz

I run the Metzelers front & rear on my 01Superglide and i reckon they are great.

I have had no problems with them.

Well thats F#%ked ya,,,, ME 880 are a great tyre for Grip, but you will only get about 6000 km out of them

Shit Noit, my rear K591 is bald (in the centre anyway) at 6000ks, no burnouts just lots of chasing jappers.

I run Pirelli Sport Demons, they wear fast but give superb grip.
I have tried the Avons, Metzelers, Continentals and Dunlops, none give the grip of the Pirellis. The Dunlops lasted longest but were the slipperyest of them all, the Metzelers were extremely slippery at half tread wear; I would never use either of them again!
From my records I got 8,000km out of the Dunlop on the rear and 15,000 from the front. The Avon gave 7,000 on the rear and 11,200 at the front. The Metzelers I took off after 3,900 as it was too slippery. The Continentals I only tried on the front where it gave 7,150km. The Pirellis gave me just shy of 4,500 on the rear. I had to change the front early due to tyre damage, I ran over something and cut the tread deeply.
I have not tried the Michelin so can't comment on them.
I don't do burnouts but I do ride insanely hard through the hills and I do travel on the flat a fair bit. All of the tyres I tried except the Pirellis spin up on the exit of corners under hard accelleration. With the Pirellis under extreme braking you can hear and feel when the limit of grip is reached, particularly on the front. This "Feel" doesnt happen with the other brands.
In my experience if you want grip you want Pirellis, if you want mileage use the Dunlop.

Hey Tux I also ran a set of Pirellis - new from Canberra to Brissy and back, then a few times from Batemans bay to Canberra and back, really good grip up and Down the Clyde Mountain - the rear was stuffed then - prob about 4000 ks
I also know that secure feeling your talking about - they were terrific while they lasted, well worth the $$$

the 407s radial give grip and mileage due to dual compound ,the new dunlop s/e are good as well ,the 591 are good untill the wear square being single compound ,the dual compound actually in thoery should keep its the tyres roundness ,metz are good for stixs burnouts and cruisin .the pireelis sound great but if they wear out at 5000klms its a choice of economics

Well finally changed my tyres.. Went to Metz's ME 880 Front and Rear.. the rear 591 had gone (maybe 1000ks left max) after 14,000ks, replaced front as well although it still had a fair bit left and would of lasted to summer.. What the heck do both at once.. $500 later both tyres fitted, balanced and new tube in rear. Interesting that the rear axle was as dry as an old log, no grease anywhere to be seen.. First time the axle had been out, good thing as i am sure a dry ol axle would have ultimatley scored something down the track.. all lubed up now..

First ride on new tyres (very softly) seamed ok on the 880's with change of direction (flip flops) 1000 times better than the dunpops.. Lets see how they wear.

I've just ordered a 170/60/17 for the rear of my 08 superglide. I looked at getting one from around here (emerald) but they wanted $325 for the tyre then the cost of transport then I had to pull the wheel out and bring it to them then $40 for the fit. Stuff that. I rang the guys from tyres 4 bikes in Brisbane and they talked me out of the dunlop for the sort of riding I do because they aren't radials. so for $241 I've got a Pirelli Strada he reckons It'll do best for traction and mileage , and the local work shop has the attachments to change it .

Excellent fasta .. sounds good, but I suppose the down side is speedo calibration... did you sort anything out there.. and yeah, it's raining buckets here too.. I get out in between showers.. sometimes can't beat them home.. but ahh well .. yah get that..

Same here in the North of the State.. torturous roads.. through the cane fields... no freeways.. and the Bruce Highway might as well be a Motorcross track in places.. lmao .. Maybe put some Nobby tyres on instead..

If the tire sticks to the road, I couldn't care less about the mileage it gets. You can buy a shitload of tires for what one high speed low side will cost you. That's not counting the doctor's bills, or the undertaker's.
