I just got a call from a mate asking if I wanted to go halfs in a 86 883. He had spotted one for sale around the corner from where we lives.
I said yes only if you let me turn it into a Cafe Racer.....
After Building a few Bikes over the last couple of years , Ive got lots of left over stuff.
I have the a Set of Cast Wheel 19 Front and 18 Rear, a 2 into 1 Super Trap Exhaust, a Headlight,and a pair of 14" Shocks
Iv'e just got to track down a Seat , Tank and Clip On's. Thank God for Ebay
I thought of that ,but my mate is a loves the Dustall look
This is it ,Bought it home today
Yes the Fun has begun,,,,,,,
I had the old Alloy Wheels left over from the 79 that was the doner for my Bobber, So the plan is to use them on this one. The Front End on the 79 is a Twin Disc, Perfect for this Bike
Both Bikes have a 35mm Front End, The Tubes on on the 79 are pitted, I thought I could just use the Twin Disc Sliders and fit them on to the 86 Tubes.
But no they have diffrent Ends on the bottom of the Tubes and diffrent Seals, I will have to track down some new Tubes tommorrow .
The Wheel will fit up with out any problems. I will get them Powder Coated in the next week or so
For those that dont know what a Cafe Racer is . There not every one's cup of tea,
I had a little free time to work on the Bike today.. Striped off the old Bars and Headlight and a few unwanted bits, fitted the New Fork Tubes. Fitted the Shocks. and tryed out the Tail.
Happy to O,
I have found a few company's the make Fiberglass Tanks and Tails , Im talking to Mick from Prix Historic Fiberglass on Phillip Island about the Tank Im going to use, I got the Tail from him as well. 0418 364 478.
Road & Race Motorcycles in Sydney 02 43 884 211 also have a good range of stuff including Tanks, I bought a pair of 35mm Clip on's from them
Classic Motor Cycle Fiberglass is another, This guy has the Best Range of stuff buy a 3 month wait

Another place that has some nice stuff is Vanem , Their site is well worth a look, and check out there links.

There's a pretty serious 'coffee grinder' in "your" issue of Heavy Duty, Walka
My own opinon is that a Cafe Racer has a Vintage Style Racing or Retro Bike . With hints of Dunsall or Rickman influence True Classic Builders
The Bike in HD is more like a moden Sportsbike, He has done a great job ,but I dont think it is Retro
Yeah, I was looking at it again last night and I get where you're coming from.
Looking forward to seeing your build.
I got back from the Pub run last night so I had a litle free time late this arvo. I got some of the Parts back from the Powder Coaters so I had to try them out
