Is It Possible & How ?
yep +1 scotty , WHY
Been thinking of doing the same and in my opinion a carby bike sounds better than injection
Whats that meant to mean AKA each to there f***** own and little fella u stand next to me pal and we will see whos the little man
My answer to your question is don't know, but i did have a 84' softtail and i ran points in that and got rid of the "Scary black box" and i was happy with that set up,ran fine for years no problems but i'm not sure i wou;ld do that to a newish bike now. I had the money to buy a new bike earlier this year but i chose to buy a 97' Dyna cause i like carbies. If it was me and i know it's not i would sell and get something closer to what you want and go from there. Your Bike Your decision. Good Luck!
John Treese designed a Twin Cam , Harley style motor before HD came up with there's he made the Treese 113" it uses EVO style ignition, you could change that to points but if you ever ran points you would not want to, i never did find a point cam that could open points same on both lob's they all seemed to be made in asia and marketed by ZEL at the end, so pain in the butt. i liked the Compu fire but don't know if they are still around. treese motors use the Dyna ignition , but can use crane if you wanted. Treese just made a 147" few years back also John designs cams for his motors and they work , guy i know runs consistan 10 second flat with a Treese 113", now he is going to the 147" he got from Renigade bikes just they use the treese cases flywheels, but use barrels from some other sorce and use heads from an other sorce.
problem is you can not put a treese twin cam into a HD twin cam bike as they use EVO style engine mounts.
i suppose you could change an EFI motor to Carb but would be too much trouble changing the ignition to points but, anything is possible, just a backward step. the americans are years behind us aussies when it come's to EFI so why do you all look at american sights. just go buy good ol Autronic or Motech, just motech costs more but can work with a wider range of sensors, autronic works with a limited range of sensors but both are light years ahead. but in the end all it is doing is putting fuel and air in and firing it.
cheers

Back to the original question.
i don,t think you could run points on a twin cam, but you could change to carb. just can't see a real problem with EFI as it comes and if you got a bad sensor its easy to put a new one in and away you go all settings stay the same.
with points you have to start from scratch so not really any easier. i had a set of points break on me once and it was kick start bloody points were closed up, had an old set in tool kit but was a pain . after going to compufire and velva touch hydralic lifters external oil drain into cam case on a shovel no more real issues just had to kick start it. only novelty with points was you could sometimes get the motor to fire and start just opening the points but it was not easy to do.
just wondering why you asked? are you having problems?
Had a look at the thread, yep, just like mine. Bunbury eh? Did yours give you any grief or is it still there like it is in the snap? That solenoid is a very heavy chunk of steel bouncing around in there. Mine had actually worn through the tape.
In Geraldton. Bought the bike in Bunbury. Can you turn off the active intake in the ECM? The end where the solenoid plugs in has the V&Hines plug in it.
Cheers Hilly, will look at that for sure, Regards, Bear
Hi Hilly, did like you suggested and bought the power commander bypass plug. Yep, she's all good now, Cheers Hilly.
