Well ladies and gents I have just found a bloody fuel leak. The overflow pipe when I open the fuel tap has the liquid gold pissing out.
Any advice before I start to pull the carby apart to find out what might be wrong ? It will be a suck it and see as I am not that sure what I wll find or what I am looking at.
carby overflow pipe i gather ??
what type of carby ?
take ur A/C of , rev ur bike up 3-4000rpm and hold it there , put ur hand over ur intake 4 a few milliy secons with out stalling ur bike, it will dye n blow heaps of black smoke but thats ok , after it gets back to the 3-4rpm do it again , 3-5 times in a row , like all within secons n try suck out the bit of shit on ur needle n seat
i gather being a sporty its a cv
1. Slide Spring 2. Slide Diaphragm 3. Vacuum Slide 4. Vacuum Port 5. Needle Jet 6. Main Air Jet 7. Main Jet 8. Slow Jet 9. Idle Mixture Adjustment Screw 10. Throttle Plate
Thanks BacaMick I looked in heaps of places for a diagram and failed man your a legend. I tried what you said and still the problem exists and yep must be a CV as you can see in the photo .. There are no markings n the body of the carb except the HD name.
will have to pull it to pieces I think. now I got the ball and chain wanting to go out so will do later .... Dont ya hate it when a mate calls for a ride and ya cant....
Scorp, should be just a bit of crap in the floatbowl, however be careful with the plastic fitting that your fuel pipe connects to the carb. They crack if you just look at them, particulary on an older bike . A brass replacement is available.
no probs , thats wat the fourm is all about
put a dyno jet in it while its apart , its probly still 883 jetted and ull solve ur back fire/pop outa the carb
a little info on cv upgrade
www.americanrider.com/output.cfm
from what I am told its been rejetted as there has been a 1200 conversion done to it before I bought it
I hope they where right
Am I right the carb is a CV ?
Hi Scorps, It's a cv carb. Standard 1993 1200 jets are 160 main 40 slow. With your filter & pipe mods you would need at least 175 main & 46 slow. Check your sparkplug colour.
Thanks Matt I will do maybe on Monday as tomorrows going to get busy with family ect re the markings on the jets by any chance ?
Hi Scorps, busy one for us tomorow too! When you unscrew the two jets as in bacamic's diagram you will see the sizes stamped into the bottom. There pretty small. I recomend that you change that fuel inlet to a brass one while you are at it. Happy Easter!
well I did it ... pulled it apart and yup I found the float lol took all th asapart blew it out did a complete clean of the lower section and then put it back together. Connected everything up as it is meant to be and there was no fluid from the overflow pipe woohoooo. Started to place the A/C on and hmm a small drip was seen. Closer inspection of hose and fittings found a small crack in the plastic fuel inlet as Matt said. damn wont be riding tmorrow now after all. I will have to wait now till the shop can get me one in.
Matt I have had no problem with it and I can see there is a 160 main jet in there
Anyways gents Thanks heaps ey and beers all round 20 mins to cleanup and out with the family
