I was at Frasers the other day and the Service manager was giving a sales rep a good reaming out because he had given someone a free service.  I thought that it wasn't a smart thing to do in front of a show room full of potential customers.  But then with not much competition maybe they don't care...............................

I've been ripped off, fucked with, bullshitted to and decieved by 1 too many bike shops - do all my own work now and it is fucking awesome.

If there is anything a little tricky I call my mate (MC mechanic with 20+ yrs exp) and he talks/walks me through it but basically there is fuck all to servicing and maintaining your own bike.

Every HD owner should have the service manual that belongs to his/her bike and get to know the inner workings - it might just save your arse on the side of the road one day.

As for free services - ROFLLMAOWTFBBQSAUCE!

Problem with using NON HD workshops with the late model bikes is that they don't have the HD dianostitc computer. In my case the guy's fitting the PC111 shorted out something and a error code came up on the bike and they ould not fix it . This happened to another rider I know using a different workshop.

So I ended up paying the idiot who fitted it and the HD dealer to fix the error code and tune the PC.... My bike will be going to the HD dealer from now on for all mechanical work.

The labour on my 1st service at Sunshine Coast H D was free, had to pay for the oil's.

I was told when I ordered it that it was free so asumed that all dealers did it and there was a system in place like the car dealers have where it is either charged back to the manufacturer or the selling dealer.

My mate found out the the hard way when he dropped his into the same dealer that if it was purchased from another dealer that you pay full tilt, now the odd's are that he he would not have ridden it up to the selling dealer at Bundy for the 1st service even it was free but it would have been nice to know that there was a charge when he dropped it off.

It appears that it is up to the dealer if they charge or not, I think that HD Australia should get it's shit together and introduce a system where the labour is charged the the selling dealer and the customer pays for the oils etc.

Lets be seroius now, most of the shit you get them to look at at the 1st service is the same stuff that you paid to have done in the " dealer delivery charge " when you ordered it. If the lazy bastards did the " pre delivery " inspection correctly then the 1st service would only involve changing the fluids and filter.

It seems to me with good reason that the warranty issue keeps raising its head. The simple fact is that anyone can service your bike or car. How would ultra tune and the likes survive if you couldn't.

If a warranty claim is required and there is some doubt about if it's a manufacturers responsibility or someone else then it's up to the manufacturer to prove that whoever did the service caused the fault.

Basic servicing only involves fluid changing and short of a major oil loss ie; leaving the drain plug loose, leavin the old oil filter gasket on or some idiot putting brake fluid in instead of engine oil then there is very little chance of a failure.

If you have it done by a quality repairer/workshop then most insure themselves against a fuck up or will fix it to save their reputation, either way you are covered.

Me, I don't trust the local dealer staff because I always have to go back because something was not done right so I  service both our bikes and cover my arse by only using genuine parts and oils, again if there is a failure then it is up to HD to prove that is was a workmanship issue because I use their parts and oils..

I've used Super Cycles over the last 8 years for service and repairs and have never had a problem. They also open and close at a time which is more convenient to their customers, unlike Frasers.
