What is "squish" in the context of engine building?

    I've been researching quite a bit on the 103" engine build and the word squish keeps coming up....

    So if you where to get your cylindes "decked" to remove that .010" thou then your pistons will now stop level with the top of the cylinders and this is known as zero deck height....................................then when you use a .030" gasket your squish is now set to a true .030".

    Thanks for the explanation Ozroder, thats really helpful...... my first question is decking and a .030" gasket a good idea if you are doing only the intake, fuel, pipes and a mild cam? Or is it only really done with a big bore kit??......... and secondly, I need to find someone good in Perth to do this stuff for me.....
