I bought a belt adjustment tool, read how to use it,up to a point where in page 1-28 of 2008 softail manual,Table 1-11, giving measurements loaded/unloaded/up in the air etc. My rocker is jacked up off the ground, and the table says 11/16-3/4 in. Where/how does that measurement come from? I understand pushing the tensioner up,to the 10lb o ring mark, but where's the exact place where 11/16-3/4 in come from? HOW  DO  I  DO IT    as in ,where do I put my ruler to get that measurement. Fucking confusing for an ol fuk like me!! :)

now I am confused. The only window,is on the top plastic deflector thats horizontal, and the belt is a few inches from it. Otherwise, there's no window anywhere. It is a Rocker? Can you be more specific robots?

If you don't know which side or can't get the disc or pulley off, just make the spacer about .5 to .75 of a mm too long and it will be very close. Fit the machined spacers/collets to the spacer and make sure they have a little bit of play in them if you want to check the spacer length first. You would have to use a lathe to shorten the spacer or it will not sit square, and bearing fail come up again. Wouldn't waste your time trying to make an exact fit, thats a bit sad, spend more time riding the fecker instead of F"'íng around making new spacers. If the hub (as they do if your a rear brake guy, and a lot are or why is the rear brake on only a Harley made much thicker than the front and still the same diameter?) gets hot the ally will expand at a different rate than the steel anyway giving a mild case 3, so don't waste your time being picky and fussy, its only a Harley.

I was told to twist the drive belt while your sitting on the bike with you fingers, if it goes 90 degrees or a bit less the tension is about right. This is not in the manual though so I accept no responsibility, but its what I do or to check it. That was for a Harley 20mm belt, not a heavy duty S&S one.

Posted pic again as juniors pencils didn't show up very well the first time, did a bit af colouring in!

Jeezus mate! I'll bust me arse trying to lean over and check belt while I'm sitting on it. Might be oright for you young fucks. Sidestand out and keep the weight on the bike at the same time maybe? Fuck it, I'll just ride 2 and a half fucking hrs to the stealers and get charged $950 for a belt adjustment......:)
