HARLEY TURBO CHARGING

Has anyone any info on how boost affects the MAP sensors on the Delphi injected harleys?

Turbo size, re-mapping, ignition timing, fuel delivery shouldnt be a prob. Ive checked out a few different kits but want to do my own from scratch. Ive emailed guys in the states about info on the MAp sensors but they only want to sell me their kits. I dont want to proceed any further until ive got the ok that the sensor will handle around the 10psi mark. that should be heaps for a stock 96'.

Ive looked into the supercharger, pro charger setups. Yes they may be good systems and work well but as far as bang for buck goes you just cant go past the turbo. I didnt like the look of the pro charger. If the turbo shit itself i can fix it myself and think ive got the fuel injection side of things pretty much worked out. Pro charger, magna charger or turbo. Boost is boost so what happens with the MAP sensor?

bacamick does that mean that the map sensor will be ok under boost pressure?

You can turbo the HDs with the factory ECU and a flash tuner with little problem... you just have to think
outside the box a bit. If its tuned right and you make the proper size selection for your turbo lag isn't a
problem. Heat is created in boost applications turbos and blowers alike because you are compressing air
not because turbos are exhaust driven

Pretty sure the MAP sensor in the Delphi units is 2 Bar. So it can read up to 14psi.

Agree with Big Joe, I'm in the process of doing a non-intercooled turbocharger kit (6psi) for my old Sportster (now my brothers) - We set a budget for the project of $1500, excluding man / tuning. Our Manifolds / pipe work / compressor housing are off to be HPC'd as we speak, and we are well under budget. - Turbo charging a harley is very, very simple, they only hard part being finding a turbo charger with a suitable compressor map suitable for a Harley engine (1250cc in this case) to minimise lag.
    - Should be good for a laugh, if nothing else, when done.
As for supercharging, tuning is simpler, but the set up / instalation as a whole is far more complex. - Main issue I dont like with with supercharging compared with turbocharging is parasitic loss. - Drag caused by the supercharger from being belt driven. - It takes power to make power. - Turbo charging is exhaust gas driven, hence the only true loss is thermal energy, which can be minimised.

Non intercooled will cause massive losses in power during summer due to timing having to be pulled as a result of heat induced KR (Knock Retard).
Not sure if 2 bar maps are available for the HD's....Really necessary (IMHO) in order to tune 'perfectly'.
