Here's a few more pictures. Hope no one was expecting to see a restoration.

This is where it all began.

After the first rebuild (still not satisfied though)

This time around I thought I'd try something different, very different.

On the way back or black

Bugger I should have realised when you stretch a bike the wiring won't reach

Just about to come down off the bench.

Is that Hammer tone ? Love it

No it's not hammer tone paint. Its my own combination. It's black base coat then matte clear with platinum flakes in it. It's different but I'm happy with it.

Not trying to steal your thread, muzza, but nearly finished my "86xlh1100 except for ignition. Mine runs points but I can"t find any info in the manual as they all seem to have electronic ign. As it"s a transition year , did some come with points or has mine been changed, just thought someone might know northey

Im not sure, I think it should have Points. I've just had mine changed to a Electronic. and it's the best, Fires up really easy.

I know mine had electronic from new but as they have almost identical cases and run pretty much the same 4 spd box as the iron head models it wouldn't surprise me if the early 1100's didn't run the same ignition system as well. I would be looking at the iron head manual for info on how to set it up, might get you out of trouble. I really doubt anyone would change it back to points from whats not a bad electronic setup. That said I've seen stranger things done to bikes (mine for instance)
    Regards Muzza
