New Perth-Bunbury "Freeway"

Next week, at last,  we all get to enjoy the opening of the new 70km "Freeway". In fact it is a new 32km of Freeway and 38km of dual-carriageway but let's not allow the facts to get in the way of a good media release. The speed limit on the Freeway part is 100 but on the dual-carriageway bit it is 110.

Now I'm a bit slow and I can't quite work out why it is safer on a dual-carriageway where there are side roads on both sides of the highway as compared to a freeway where there are NONE, only slip-roads on and off, and overpasses.

    Am I missing something?

I can see this stretch of highway being a coppers paradise......they are talking about point to point and all manner of dasterly devices to get a few bucks out of ya to pay for the bloody thing......

I for one will generaly give it a wide berth.......cos if the cops are gonna be there often they are not gonna be elsewhere.....

I reckon the best bit about it is that the Old Coast Road will now become a much cruisier place to ride now that 90% of the car drivers took the other route! Just think, no more bloody traffic jams on the Mandurah Bridge EVERY long weekend. I'd like to personally shoot the dickhead who designed it with only 2 lanes in the first place! duh!!

There's an old road traffic designers' saying: "A freeway is only as fast as the set of traffic lights at the end"

    Enough said!
