hi ,  dry open clutch  is very  loud when disengaged,  & can also change the pri drive ratio depends on the brand name used,   be carefull there's  alot of shit out there  primo is a good brand , don't think much of BDL ltd , iv'e seen a few fall apart after a while  ,  also no adjustment on the dyna for the belt tension not like the old SHOVEL  cheers

Funny enough I was going to ask the question tonight, re:- what are the pro's and con's of open belt primaries. All answered here. Thanks fellas.

I never needed rubber bands in 20 years!

Gets rid of that useless thing called a compensator sprocket.

Cleaner - no oil to leak out the primary

    Looks good!

I ride in the rain, on dirt roads, anywhere really - its all good!

Can affect gear ratio's - just pay attention and do the maths - its not hard..........

If I want to tighten up the clutch or adjust the pushrod play its a few minute no brainer!

Had one on my rigid shovel chop for years, new softail coming has one as well.

BTW did I mention they look great!

i,ve got a 3 inch BDL on my chopper, no problems with it as yet, noisy with the clutch pulled but the sound of it running in gear makes up for that , chewed the backs of a few shoes out but no jeans as yet, you soon learn where your feet go ,

the only thing is that any open or exposed primary belt setup is illegal,

but hey, so are a lot of things, fuck the fun police

I did a bloody lot of miles with a Shovel with a primo belt drive Bandit clutch, kick start only. when i had that you had to make everything yourself. sometimes was a pain in the arse, but if you had it set up right was trouble free.

but i would not change to open belt drive now the closed in chain is best. but if you must go for it , just i got a few stones between the belt and the pully and thats bad news they wear the pully gears and can push a hole in the belt, also have seen some belts throw off, never happened to me but seen it happen to another guy. they are good kick start only!
