Does anyone with a Road KIng wish they had a fairing?

Just making my final decision on a 2010 Rd King  -  I think I will pass on the Softails thanks to all those who replied to my other thread....

I do mainly long solo day rides, a lot of highway.... should I consider the Street Glide??  Would I be better off with the batwing fairing or the RKing screen?.

    Cheers

Berms I have just been down this same road and chose the Road King

While it isn't cheap it is possible to add a quick detach batwing to a Road King if this is what your heart desires. This means you can swap between naked front end, screen and fairing. The gauges are mounted in the fairing on the glides versus in the tank for the RK. My bike will have no screen unless I am on decent ride.

If you prefer the batwing on all the time consider the street glide etc.

    Hope this helps.

    cheers

Hey Surly, thanks for the input and BTW congrats on your new ride.

Whats your comparison of fairing Vs screen when doing highway travelling at higher speeds??  Did you try both when testing the bikes out?   Most of my riding will be with screen on and lot of long open highways....

I'll be interested to see how you go with the screen once you have the height worked out.   Keep me updated.

Just keep in mind the fact that the Street Glide has lower susspension than the Road King and thus scrapes eariler.  If you're into scratching or chasing Ducatis over the mountains take this into account.

I have an 08 Electra Glide Std (no longer avaiable) and am quite happy.  I'd be happier with the improved frame of the 09 but I've purchased a "Progressive" branded frame brace to help things in this regard.  Still I've become used to the mid corner wallow and as yet I've not fitted it.  Just too bloody lazy.

We do a fair bit of touring and longer day tripping, two up, and find the Bat Wing a real bonus.  Pannier capacity could be better but the RK is roughly the same in this respect.

I did over 10,000 km's on, the sold, 09 Ultra, and have now done a thousand on the 09 Road King. I am much happier with the Road King. The less weight the bike has to haul around makes it handle even better thatn the Ultra did (and that was great).

I too tried the Street Glide and found the lowered suspension pounded my back, and the buffeting was tireing.

Go the King, you wont be dissapointed.

Get a '09 Electra Glide, bloody great handling bike.   If you can find one that is....

I knew Lofty would be the one with the answer. I will now reconsider moving to an Ultra at some stage.

Thanks for all the replies guys,  and yes Scotty it really does depend on who you talk to!

I'm still leaning towards the RK and getting a detachable batwing fairing sent over from the states.... best of both worlds

I just got back today from a ride to Brissy and back on my Roadking without the screen and No buffeting. Bloody fantastic! So no I don't wish for a fairing.

LOL....... yeah you are right - but others' experience does count for something and helps people from making expensive mistakes!!
