    Morning all.

Long time listener, first time caller so I just wanted to introduce myself and ask a question at the same time?

I'm taking my 03 Wide Glide through it's Roadworthy (VIC) and it passed everything except the bars.  They are ape hangers and I'm told the max they can be is 380mm however mine are over 420mm and are therefore illegal... Does this sound right?  The guy won't pass it as it; needs to be viewed by VicRoads.

If so, does anyone in VIC (Melb) have a spare pair of mini apes lying around the garage and are preapared to loan me just so I can get it through RWC?  I'll pay you a deposit if you like and there can be a few can's of Jimmy in it too if you want as I would just need it for 48 hours.

Also, how do I tell the diameter of the bars as they look like 1.25" rather than the usual 1".  Would this be written on the bars somewhere?

    Cheers Dingo...

PS: Here's a pic of the bars in question..

Nice looking ride mate. The bars look like 1"1/4 if ya not sure have a look where the controls fit to the bar if there is a little step down then they are because the 1"1/4 bars need to step down to 1" to fit the controls. Well at least mine did anyway.

check under the riser top clamp most step down to 1" there any way if so it will not be a prob. I had to special order mine to get the 1"1/4 rite through but o needed to as i used a set of 2 risers and not a single cap like you have and you would have been able to see the step. Anyway just check if it does step down there if it does you can throw any cheap 1" bars on it to pass.

    Just a thought.

I think the rules dictate the height of the bars above the height of the seat must be under that specific figure. If you loosen the bars at the clamp, is it possible to "lean" the bars back towards the rider (as maybe he has shorter arms) and therefore lowering the height difference? My neighbour did this to her standard mini-apes 'cos she couldn't reach them.
