Fine tuning the Cobra FI2000

I have fitted up one of the Cobra FI2000 to my 2008 1200C sporty, anyone have any experience fine tuning these EFI tuning systems. I have noticed the engine is running much cooler but has some surging at low throttle openings and does not drop back to idle speed straight away, it hanges on a bit. It may have does this from new but I did not notice while had the stock exhaust. Now has the Cobra Speedster exhaust.

I put on a Screamin' Eagle Race Fueler (SERF, not SERT) which is a small pot-based fuel adder like the Cobra or the Doebek TFI (which are almost identical). I found what you had... I had a SE Stage 1 air cleaner on and V&H slip-on exhaust. There was lots of pop, lag when rolling on the power, and then surging too. Basically I went "sod it" and took it off. On the lookout for V&H's fuelpak, and if that bites too, I'm staying just with the pipes.

I fitted the TTS, pretty simple operation and the bike runs great.

I wouldn't mess with those "fuel adders",  you can't adjust timing, or remove fuel if you need to.

Just my opinion, but you are better off saving your money and getting the TTS from the start than going from one to another and settling for a poor tune.

I assume you have the model with closed loop?,  being a  fi2000r.

These units are great, easy to install and you dont need a laptop or dyno...

yes a thundermax, power commander, tts would be better but thats not the question being asked!

Okay if you have the closed loop leave the green at 3, stock settings are yellow 2 and red 2

What i have found when i first put it on i found the bike to idle fine but lazy with power delivery and it still had a fair bit of decell pop.

I was running the factory air filter setup and s&s slip ons. I Increased the the yellow pot to 3 and the red to 3 this made a hell of difference, throttle was crisper, power delivery was smooth and the bikes exhaust note sounded deeper, more importantly the decell pop was totally gone, it now had more power

I did experiment with the green pot but it ran poorly on any other setting except for 3.

I then installed the screaming eagle stage 1 air filter kit. WHAT A DIFFERENCE, this totally spun me out - the bike idles like a harley but when you open the throttle the front fork lifts almost to the point where the front wheel lifts off the ground and it sounds like a drag bike. It goes hard! but sounds so different you will know what i mean if you choose to go down this path.

I then notice the bike was again lazy, so I accomodated for this by increasing the yellow to 4 and the red to 4 and now the bike is running great.

My advice to you is to start off with the stock settings and gradually increase until you obtain the desired result, you will need to play around with the green pot until you resolve your issue as this affects idle and cruize fuel.

the first "green led pot section" is for one with out the closed loop and underneath is the one for the closed loop.

Your Cobra Fi2000 fuel injection module has been tested and preset for best function and rideabilty

on a motorcycle in stock form. The Fi2000 does however, have 3 important adjustments that allow

you to tune the module for optimum performance, especially if you have performed other changes to

your motorcycle. These adjustments also allow you to resolve drivability issues if our stock settings

are not exactly right for your bike. Make sure your motorcycle is up to normal operating temperature

(15 minutes of riding should be sufficient) before making any adjustments. Remove the door to

expose the pots shown in Figure 4.

GREEN LED POT (left pot) - With the Closed Loop function of this module you do not need to adjust this

setting, leave it at 3. Without a closed loop system this adjustment would affect idle and cruise fuel. If you

had cruising issues, this is where you would try a different setting. Generally, surging and uneven running

while cruising is a lean fuel condition, so adding a small increase in fuel by turning this adjustment

clockwise with a small flat blade screwdriver a 1/2 of a position would help. The bike would need to be

Test-driven to feel an improvement and only the setting would need to be increased until the surge went

away. Also, backfiring or popping on trailing throttle is generally a lean symptom (or an exhaust gasket

leak). The same small increases as above would be tried just until the backfiring would disappear.

YELLOW LED POT (middle pot) - this adjustment affects acceleration and power fuel. If you have a

hesitation or bogging on acceleration, this is where you would try a different setting. Aftermarket air

cleaner assemblies generally lean out fuel mixtures, so try small clockwise increases as above until a

    smooth acceleration returns.

RED LED POT (right pot) - this adjustment is the top end or power fuel adjustment. Just like the main

jet in a carburetor, it starts to control fuel as you demand maximum power from your bike and takes

over completely above 4000 R.P.M. As performance gains are added to your motorcycle, such as big

bore kits, camshafts, flowed cylinder heads, etc., each component will increase the fuel demand of

the system. With the red pot turned to its maximum (10) position, the Fi2000 will cope with nearly 100

R.W. horsepower. An all-stock motor will only require a 2 position. You can generally, if you are

using quality performance engine upgrades, in a sensible combination equate the numbers evenly

from 2 up to 10 based on horsepower gains.

GREEN LED POT (left pot) - this adjustment affects idle and cruise fuel. If you have cruising issues,

this is where you would try a different setting. Generally, surging and uneven running while cruising is

a lean fuel condition, so try adding a small increase in fuel by turning the adjustment clockwise with a

small flat blade screwdriver a 1/2 of a position. Test-drive the bike to feel an improvement and only

increase the setting until the surge goes away. Also, backfiring or popping on trailing throttle is

generally a lean symptom (or an exhaust gasket leak). Try the same small increases as above just

    until the backfiring goes away.
