When did you have your 1st ride on a HD and what was it like?
Mine was on my 18th birthday, I was at tradeschool and living in Adelaide. My parents were in Mount Gambier and they organised a ride for me with the local Harley tours. The bike was a red Fatboy and I remember it had only done 30km's. We rode up through the hills and back via the beach. The rider raced Ducati's and rode the HD like one. I remember him saying that he normally took a break for the passenger about halfway, but he said the smile he could see in the mirrors kept him going. We did about 200k's in the 2 hours on a hot November night. I remember it better than losing my virginity!
At that time Peter Stevens the HD dealer was in the old Repco building on King William Rd. I used to go in there so regularly they gave me the big coffee table catalogues to get rid of me, I've still got them all!
Dude
October 22nd 2007. 5:15pm. About 37 minutes after I handed over the cheque.
Did 300km around Darwin in the following 4.5 hours. The next day my face hurt from smilling, my wrists, legs, back and bum hurt and I didn't care 'cause I had to ride another 300k's home. All good.
When I was 18 or 19 - on my unlce Bob's Electra Glide.
Oh man...well how sad am I?? i started on a trike
as long as i dont end on a trike i wil be happy
Summer of 1994 on my mate's softail. My car was in a workshop and my mate gave me a ride to and from work.
Second ride was in October 2007 from Fraser in Morley on my own softail. Did 450 km.
I used to pinch my brothers iron barreled roadster and ride it to school before I had a bike licence. I stoped when he found out and bashed the crappa out of me. My first legal ride was on a 88 Heritage, my first new bike I owned and hooked for life now.
My first ride was on my mates Heritage , he was full of piss and there was a copper lurking so he rang me up to come and get him - kicked her in the guts and roared off up the street , got to the first corner and grabbed a handful of front brake and found out first hand the stopping capabilities of standard Harley brakes - Got it round the corner without scraping TOO many bits off and took it a bit easier from then on .
A mate bought around a Evo Fat Boy and said go for a ride as he knew that I always wanted a Harley. I had never riden a road bike before so off I went, with no licence. Got to the first corner and had to find the brakes quickly, lucky there wasnt anything comming. Off I went for a quick ride feeling about 6 foot and 100kg and loved it. About 6 months later I told the wife that I wanted a cheap road bike to get to work and eventually came home with a Deuce as the bank manager loved Harleys(God bless her). The Harley is the first road bike I have owned and proud to say I havnt ridden a Japper.
I fell in love with the softail when I first saw one back in 1986, and then I knew I was going to own one, It took me 20years to eventually get one but the wait has been worth it. I was riding a ducati and my friend has a 2002 Duece, so we swap for the ride home and that was it
1988. i was living in broome at the time and a sheila i was sharing with had a brother who rode his 1985 FXEF Superglide over from adelaide .he wanted to sell to buy a monaro off a cocky.so the deal was done 10g cash,it had 19000 ks on the clock.and i was happy as.
