Just wanting to start a new post and see who has had a problem with their mufflers and pipes with the Police etc.

If it is illegal to have anything other than stock mufflers and pipes then 99% of HD owners have a problem !!!

Just be interested to hear your comments.

Didnt see this thread so i started one similar sorry Bano.
but yeah just got a letter in the mail from RTA inviting me to a test station to make sure me pipes are not too loud.
maybe its time to get together and start a movement.
I notice with louder pipes i have a safer time on the road.
    surely that counts for something.
Im just going back to stock and do the test. what else can i do.
im not riding a harley that sounds like a honda.

So update i went in with stock pipes and they failed the bike.
    stupid retards
I have the ADR39a and according to the rule they didnt use a reference tone after each measurement and also they clearly had no idea what rpm they were revving the bike to.
So now i have to talk to the head dude at technical standards and pull him up.
Basically according to their own design rule if one model/make of bike registers a certian reading then all others of the same make and model can be deemed to be the same for the purposes of complying to the ADR.
sound pressure levels obey the inverse square law for every metre away from a point source you lose 2x the sound pressure level.
If i measured a baby crying from 0.5 metres with an A weighted scale device the baby would be illegal.
No one will ever have their head that close to an exhaust which is why they have the drive by measuring system as well included in the ADR 39a which measures a bike from 7.5 Metres going past at different speeds. using this method clearly gives a more useful assesment of wether or not the bike is too loud.
So i am going to have this argument with them and i will let you know how i go
Basically the trump card is: if my bike is illegal then they need to defect pretty much every vehicle on the road as they are all louder than the stock pipes from .05 metres at 2000 rpm.
I will let you know how i go.

Night, why did you go in - your bike is not due for rego and I assumed like cars bikes don't need a slip for the first few years. Am I wrong?  Never occurred to me that I'd had a problem with my SE's - I didn't keep the stock mufflers (told the dealer he could keep them). They would be only marginally louder than stock, but clearly you have to pick the right tester. Pardon my ignorance but does any normal car roadworthy tester do bikes as well?
