OLD TIMES GONE

G'day folks....Well it's been almost 20 years since I sold my last harley and I must say how times have changed....for me anyway...20 years ago I would think nothing of jumping on my bike with bugger all gear,a few mates and ride like there was no tomorrow..Hard,fast and it seemed without fear...Now 20 years on and back on a bike it just doesn't seem the same...Going for a ride now I find I am checking gear, worrying about this and that and when on the road 100-110ks is a really an enjoyable speed thats gives me time to look around and reflect on the old days...A few fella's I ride with still go fairly hard and seem to spend a fair bit of time waiting for me,but hey, they'll get used to it....My question is does any one else feel the same way,Do we all slow down a little when the big 50 comes around and ride to please ourselves or do we try to keep up...Also curious to know what other peoples cruise speeds are considering the way the laws are now....

    Cheers...Sparra

Good onya Sparra, good to see you're riding again. As we get older mate, things tend to pass by too quickly and the young'uns will learn that life's there to enjoy. So enjoy cruising at whatever speed you want mate. I still keep up with the speedsters but there's another body on the back hittin' me too slow down. I do enjoy a nice slow ride though ...... if you get what I mean.

    Mate,

whatever speed you ride, as long as you're ridin is all that's important.

I bought my Harley cause I don't need to get where I'm goin yesterday and want to enjoy the ride.

    Cheers

    Sparra,

I'm only 40 and I'm a notorious slow rider (and proud of it) just ask around.  I don't see the point in the speeds that some of thes guys I ride with get up to.  For me I ride the bike to relax and it seems to me the longer it takes you to get where you're going the better.  Some would disagree no doubt.

Mate,as years go on, we all tend to slow down. I myself just cruise.

Age shouldnt matter mate, im'e 56 and still rideing.

I usually keep to the limit....mostly,or close to it.

Just ride to your own comfort level and enjoy the ride as slip said and without trying to keep up

    with the boys.

    mick....

Welcome back Sparra....Yes, we do tend to get a little more sense, & appreciate the ramifications of falling off, just a little bit more the older we get. The comfort level will return, and the occasional burst clears out the pipes (yours & the bikes) when clear to do so. Spend most of the time on the limits....too old to lose license now. I smile when the wannabes go flying past...been there...done that...now I ride because I love it, and I'm not in a hurry to get anywhere. The longer the ride the better. Who needs artificial stimulation when you ride a HD. Relax brother & enjoy the bike.

    Ride safe

I remember when I picked my bike up about 6 months ago.

I had been off them for about 10 years (yeah, the marriage and family thing) and once I was single again I started getting this itch that I needed to scratch.

I picked it up from Frankston and had to get it home to Lilydale.....I was cruising up the freeway with this great, big shit-eating grin on my face when I noticed that all the traffic was passing me.

I started wondering if I should be going quicker and thought ....Who gives a fuck, I'm enjoying myslef and that's what I love about riding.

So that's what I do......I ride to a speed that I can enjoy. Sometimes it's giving it some stick off the line to get clear of the traffic and sometimes it's just kicking back and enjoying what's going on around me.

Once you have reached 50 you should know the difference between having a buster or enjoying the ride. Just pace yourself and forget about the rest. Enjoy!

Know what you're saying Sparra. My days of hard charging everywhere are just about gone, much prefer to ride to my comfort zone, (not necessarily the speed limit). I do ride with boys who ride hard, but that is usually on short rides. Those boys have never accompanied me when I do a long run, they don't seem to enjoy a 1200 klm plus stint in one day so each to their own. Way I see it, its your ride, your day, ride as you want to. Nothing wrong with stopping to smell the flowers as you get older

Hang on a sec, why is everyone setting the old age bar at 50?? I only have a year to go and feel like I am still 20! My riding has slowed down, but thats got to do now with all the speed cameras, unmarked chasers and bloody idiots on the road, nothing else.

But really, who cares how fast others go, just ride to suit yourself and enjoy.
