Installed my Screamin Eagle AC & V&H fuelpak today

My Vance & Hines fuelpak arrived today so I finally managed to install the Screamin Eagle air cleaner that's been sitting on my shelf for a couple of months and the fuelpak.  See pics below.

A quick visit to the fuelpak site (http://www.fuelpakfi.com) gave me the exact calibration for my bike setup, ie bike, exhausts, AC and stock or modified engine.

Fitting the fuelpak was a bit of a saga, you have to squeeze the connectors in above the battery which took quite a bit of messing around but got there eventually.

Calibration of the fuelpak was quick and easy took about five minutes and testing went as described.  To test once you've installed and calibrated it is a matter of rolling the throttle full on then full off with the engine not started and the display on the fuelpak zooms from zero to 99 and back again.

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to ride the bike I only test started it, but the idle was a lot smoother than previously when I put the AC on without the fuelpack.  I'll ride it tomorrow morning so I'll post an update as to how it goes.

    Fuelpak package contents:

    Off with the stock AC:

    On with the SE AC:

    Stock ECU setup:

Squeezing the V&H fuelpak in between the harness and the ECU.

Getting the battery back in was a bastard, I had to shift the wiring around quite a bit to make it fit back in, but it made it back in eventually:

Glad that you got everything fitted and that it seemed to run ok.I am having the service done on my bike and a few other things as well,I am putting the Fuelpak on at the same time,so will be interested in your perception when you get to ride it,mine should be on by Friday.

Just took the bike for a test ride and all was good there's a definite power boost as a result of putting on the AC and fuelkpak. Main difference is that with the addition of the high flow AC the bike ran really smoothly with the fuelpak. It idled well and accellerated really well. I'ts a good thing now that I tried it previously with the same setup but no fulepak because I have seen the definite value in putting it on. All in all well worth doing. I noticed the odd pop from the exhausts probably a good thing as it's a sign that the mixture is richer, but I wouldn't say it bothered me.

Can i ask how much for the fuel pak ?
Are you still under warranty ?
I assume this would affect new bike warranty ?

Yeah, called Frasers and they said that fuel and ignition warranty would be voided.
So I guess I'll go the S/E route.

$260 is a fkn lot cheaper than the $800 they are quoting me.
You're right, I could always remove it before service.
Will check the link, I got a mate who used to work at a dealer and he says there was some other clip in set up he played with which he thinks will do the job admirably so I'll look into that as well.
Got too much shit taking up money at the moment though, that's my problem.

I went down the same path as you Rocket.

There appears to be no such thing as a stage one download for 07 models. Frasers are suggesting a SERT to go along with the aircleaner upgrade making it a bloody expensive stage one upgrade .

    cheers

I went the PCIII although it is a lot more messing around. I will get the bike on the dyno soon, just got to make up my mind where. It was a hell of a job fitting the PCIII. Instruction said under the stock ECU, but that is where the alarm is fitted. Shit of a job in the end and I may still change the location.

Yes, you are right popping is too lean. Not sure if it's a problem with mine as I've only ridden it a couple of times since doing the fuel tuner. Strange thing is it only seems to do the pop on upshifts, I don't know what that is about? Doesn't do it on decel so hopefully it's not running lean.

Hey Kingchops, hows the fuelpak going, are you still happy with the setup? I,ve been looking at doing exactly what you have done when I finally get my bike that is so am keen to see how yours is running now. Looked at a lot of different fuel controlers and the fuelpak looks good value for money and at least you can set it up yourself with out needing a computer to programme it every time you change something which is a big plus to me. One other question, do you feel/know if you have to change the ignition controler as well or does it handle the changes you have made plus the fuelpak? thanks mate stay upright.

    Pub,

Fuelpak has worked out great for me, I've been riding the bike a few weeks now and it's been running great. So I would generally recommend it. I haven't changed my ignition controller I still run stock and everything is fine so I'd say you don't have to do anything there. As you said the fuelpak is good for people who want a plug in solution that can be set up easily and without any configuration hassles. So it fits that bill exactly.

I've got the Thundermax now, Fuelpak was great as a stage 1 solution. Yes it is a bastard to get in on top of the battery. Ozblueharley has mine now.

brucecul, when you set it up did you do it with a laptop with you, just asking as I will be heading down the same path soon. I looked up the web page & it all seems quite easy.

i printed out the calibrations and did it that way . it is easy to do it just sat the connectors under the seat ,20 mins max to instal if i had a laptop handy it would have been easier to tune . i have had a dobeck system that was modified by the maker in the usa turn up so i don't think i'll be using the fuel pack . it would be cool if v&H some calibrations for our aus bikes tho. the dobeck did make a bigger difference i reckon. cheers

Installed a V&H Fuelpak on the girls Sportster, it was a challenge to fit all that wiring under the frame and ontop of the battery but its easy to achieve.

One thing to think about getting on the sportster are the new plastic clips on top of the left side cover as they do get loose over time.

We changed the originals and replaced the clips from a Sportster Iron, they work well and easy to install, now the cover is firm and won't fall down while your riding.

christopher, depending on your bike you may be able to find a setting for the fuelpak with the SE cpu. depends if vance and hines in their wisdom have tested a bike with the setup you're going with. Email V&H and they will let you know what your options are with the fuelpak.

I have just installed a fuelpak with V&H shorties with quiet baffles + a k&n high flow filter on my 2011 superlow. It's made noticeable difference. Will post a few pics up in the coming days.
