A mate of mine has a night rod and he was telling me last night that it used 750ml of oil to every 1000km from new and is now using 500ml every 1000km with 20,000km on the bike. Has anyone heard of this happening ? He has talked to a few V Rod owners and some have indicated similar problems. Can you guys shed some light on the subject, it sounds way excessive to me. I think his bike is a 2006 model.

Mines a 08 model and hasnt used any oil to date, its done over 20 000 ks and gets ridden pretty hard

I have recently bought an 09 night rod, using about 500 ml per 1000k, dealer is doing an oil cosumption test now. will let u know the results. I think it is excessive but we will see! l

My 09 night rod blows smoke after sitting for a few days, valve guide seals I suspect. Back to the dealer, shouldn't happen with a new bike! 3600ks!

howdy, my 08 nightrod was using about 500ml of oil at around every 1200km,so i pushed it hard to its 8000 km service,oil level has not dropped much on the stick since the service, bike now has 11500 km.the bike did blow a little blue smoke at start up but i dont notice it now, i have seen these bikes do this on u tube when checking out different exhausts.i have a mate with an 09 night rod and i said what ever you do keep an eye on the oil, well, what happened was his oil light came on not long after his first service.his first thoughts were that the dealer under filled it!  trouble is he is fussing around on it like an old women. i dont worry about mine it seems to be settling in, but i would not pussy foot around nursing these bikes when running them in. as all the fellows are saying -gettem rev vin , bed those rings in, but trust me no engine likes being laboured, and certainly these engines. good luck.

Hey Wikroz, I know who you are and I'm not riding like a old women!!  You couldn't get away from me at the weekend!

My first Rod so I'm gaining experience from the oil use...which I have never seen another new bike use that much before. Anyway as you said I need to ride it! Checked the oil after 400klms and has now hardly used any, maybe 100ml so it looks like it's bedding in. Maybe I was right about the dealer???

Anyway it looks like it's your shout, beeter bring some around.
