I have on order a Fat Bob, candy red sunglow. Due to a change in financial circumstances I can no longer go through with the purchase. Obviously this is very disappointing for me. Making it worse is that the bike shop will not return my deposit. However, they have agreed to transfer the deposit to another purchaser if I can find someone to take over the purchase. The way it would work is that the new purchaser would pay me my deposit and the bike shop would transfer the deposit to the new purchaser. Benefit for me is that I get my deposit back. Benefit for the new purchaser is that they have a new fat bob on confirmed order that is due to arrive in April; these bikes are pretty rare and delivery dates can extend to 12 months.

another thought gags... know of people who have changed their mind on the type of bike ordered using same deposit. Does the person have to take said bike or can they select another colour or model? just may help getting your deposit back.
