Big question here I know, but you blokes are always so helpful I thought I'd throw this one at you...
Let me know what you think is best to get more power from my bike, and we're talking a solid good new whack of power. I'm not to good doing this stuff myself so I wanna end up with the right set of goodies working in combination and then I will source them and find someone good to put it all together.
As for details, I'm not going to pretend to know more than I do, so however I let ya' know what I do / or want and then you educate me as to best combo / bang for you buck...
THANKS HEAPS... bike is still under warranty etc but I'd like to get your suggestion into action in next 6 months.
I like to;
- Have good useable touring power (& some fuel economy) as I often do +400klm rides and I also like to take the missus away for weekender's etc.
- In saying that I don't mind if the bike is a bit lumpy, bit of a handful etc, in fact I like that and have had many Hi-po cars / drag cars etc.
- I like to hit the drag strip at WSID and would like to improve my times there but don't want any overheating probs tho for summer/city etc.
- Budget wise I guess I'd go up to a maximimum of $6k total incl labour etc.
I would think with those sort of figures Oz, that a clutch and crank upgrade would be on the cards as well......
For me a moderate 103 with Andrews 54H and heavier clutch spring will do...hope to get 90 to 95HP (maybe 100hp if heads are ported and a 2:1 exhaust etc) and 100-110 TQ....The cost of all this will be under two grand, instal by me and friends......
There is nothing more satisfying than to have a bike that is responsive and has gobs of torque........When me bike came of the shop floor in standard trim I was somewhat disappointed, 68 HP pushing near 400kg all up was not too thrilling.....to now the upgrades have transformed the bike, getting just over 80HP with A/C, SE 204, TTs and Pipes......
Bt
Oz i don't like the SE race clutch. know a few that have used them.
with clutchs, you just wait till they slip, a sliping clutch don't hurt that much, in fact can help performance, a clutch that has no slip can break gear box's.
the VPC is a good idea, allows light pull and puts pressure on the clutch plates when you need it, i don't use one but, know a few that do and they ride and race, just need someone that knows to put them in for you or could have problems.
i have the S&S Clutch best i've had yet, i had a bandit mach super clutch on a shovel, but like you say the stock clutchs are good to a point.
also you put more HP & TQ and you get more pressure on the gears and makes it hard to shift fast.
I Love My VPC
gota admit when i had it in my evo train it was a bitch to change gears on full racing , now i have it in my 07 dyna i never use the clutch to change wen racing, not sure why it changes so easy , could be the new trany desingh or the mobil1 i run in all holes, mobil 1 since day 1 so i dont no any diff
Bloody top stuff all, THANKS. I've been reading all this with interest. Sounds like Ozroders Tman packaage is a good thing. Would be good to get out to 107 though for that kind of money.
I have a good mate that's introducing me to a mechanic bloke that does alot of porting for the MX teams and bikes in general, he's a big harley nut too though apparantly. Also have a good referall from KrashK re a bloke to bolt it all up and machining etc. Wack on the Bassani Pro street pipes for sure, and clutch I think leave stock and see if the slipping becomes too much over time. ALOT of people seem to talk about those Andrew's Cams. TTS sounds like a goer, to change to closed loop for normal riding etc is that just a plug and play thing that you do at the track? Do forward controls have an impact on the shift over midmounts do they??
