Customising- and Insurance Perils

I have my Rocker insured with Shannons at about $32,250 for around $550. Seems quite reasonable so no complaints. I have spent an arm and both legs on customising it to the value of $47K so I would like to increase my insurance to cover this risk. Due to my bike being subject to MAXIMUM MODIFICATION although the motor remains untouched, the maximum insurable amount is $41,000 AND it will now cost me $970 per year!!!

Thats about a 70% increase in premium for an increase of 28% in insured value. How does this work??? I have no bloody idea!! Needless to say, I have left it at $32,250 agreed value and will look around for a better deal next March when it expires.

Up until now I have had no complaints whatsoever with Shannons (although I have never made a claim!)

Anyone else had the similar problems?

a coupla things you might want to consider to reduce your premium ( if you havent already ). named rider - you are the only one allowed to ride , increase your voluntary excess. i have both on my harley and the premium is about 60% of what it would be without this .

I'm insured with Swann Insurance....Maxrider.....$23085 value, premium is $359.....I opted to have named rider and I'm not too fussed about the bling, I figure that if the bike is a write off I may not be needing one. Cover is adequate for most repairs.

A little bit of topic but, I did have my Brock commodore insured with Shannons as well as most other members
in the National Club body. That equals a shit load of cars. Cut a long story short, they would not insure most cars
for true worth so most members moved over to Vigil insurance. Have not had to claim and hope I never have to either,
but they have been great. Shannons were great as well, but they were charging double the premiums for the same
cover.I had my car with them for around 6 years so i was pretty loyal. Most club members have found that they think
because they are the larger corporation they can dictate terms. That is just the general feeling in the car scene mate,
always pays to looksie before the buyie..

mate this is a classic case of read the fine print and then get a freakin lawyer to read it then read it again yaself !!?? then ask heaps of dumbass questions like if i add a set of pipes that arent legal will my insurance be void ? and 10/10 it will be cause any mod thats not voids your insurance ,unless its written into your policy which usualy it wont be cause they(ins comp) dont want the hassles of mods etc ..oh and try QBE .best of luck bud !
