RKC, have been there & done that mate so I'm hearin' ya bro.

Accident 11th August, bike back 22nd December for just over $3000 damage through Frasers HD (don't give a stuff about naming them). Now trying to locate the oil leak I have and my ex-insurance company Western QBE (I'll name them easily too) don't want to know about the stuff ups and new problems as I signed the release form to get my bike back and let's face it, probably also because I chose to insure my bike elsewhere because they were pathetic

Sadly I only earn $700 bucks/fortnight so I don't have the option of splashing out for a new bike and I reckon it'll take roughly another $3000 to get my bike fixed right so that I'm happy with it. That's not to say that it's completely stuffed, just "owner preference" you know?

Most dealerships won't give you a date on parts because they wait for enough orders for a consignment to cut their costs but you still pay the same. I would put $100 down that you could order the parts cheaper & get 'em here sooner than the dealer (and with my pay $100 is a bloody big bet)

    Good luck man

rkc... sorry to hear about delay.. have heard similar stories over here in the west.

from what i gather there are a couple of issues:

    • some parts cannot be purchased outright. they form part of an exchange. not sure but think it relates to guards and tanks with original paint work. items have to be returned before replacements can be dispatched.
    • most parts are quoted to insurance companies as shipped seafreight... add a minimum 55 days to wait.

hope you get everything sorted and are back on the road before winter

Have you considered the media? maybe "Today Tonight" or such

What about a few lines in "Heavy duty" They may not want to do it though but the current affair programs love these stories.

When they get involved things seem to happen.

When you think HD is 2nd overall in sales in AU after Honda [ see Heavy duty, current edition ] it should have its act together with regards parts and  service.

I had a Yamaha Royal Star about 8yrs back and had a good enough prang $7500 and the bike was back in 2 weeks.

    If one can do it!

I got the 2008 FXSTC from Morgan and Wacker on the Gold Coast and so far so good but we will wait and see.

RKC, the simple facts will be that the dealer has ordered your parts with his " stock order ", the price the dealers pay for parts" ordered daily "could be as much as 40% dearer than what they pay if they order it as a " stock order " Stock orders also save in freight. If there is painted parts the wait is always months, a mate just waited 10 weeks for a CVO springer tank.

As for regular parts orders the standard line from our local dealer if it is not in stock its a week if in Melbourne and 6 weeks or more ex U.S. They also whinge about everyone buying parts direct from the U.S but why wouldn't you, I get stuff from America all the time and it is here within 3-7 days and at a much more realistic price.

    Good luck

The bottom line is, that bloody shop in Elizabeth street are a bunch of ........ ok I won't use the word but perhaps arrogance fits. How many of you have gone in there to seek out a part or accessory and been forced to stand around waiting while the staff drank coffee or browsed on a computer. When you interrupt their peace and quiet you get sneered at. They don't give a damn about a customer because they know that standing behind you is a conga line of white collar Harley buyers who are cashed up and want to buy a new ride. Oh if only there were 2 or 3 other city Harley retailers that could give the E street mob some competition and smarten up their rude arrogant act. Thats my little rant.
