Hey Surly nice report first up.
What sort of back rest have you got and does it fold forward so ya can get ya leg over it?
PIB,
Same as Lofty's and although I didn't realise at first yes it folds forward.
Riders Backrest part # 52914-09A
Install Kit part # 52589-09
cheers Surly
Hey Surly, did you use the SE heads with your 103" or did you use the stock 96" heads?
looking sweet Surly.... sounds like your pretty happy with the package
Bike is now just over 2200km and over due for its first service.
I did about 1300km over the weekend (see WA section for details) and can add to my earlier comments.
I have had one hot start hesitation so far but that was pretty much stop and almost immediately restart to move the bike a little further. I am hoping this wont be a regular issue or releases will need to go in.
The bars are going to be swapped for the reach bars as I was getting a little elbow pain from my arms being almost locked out. These bars are supposedly 2 inches more pullback and a little higher and narrower than stock. I considered the Heritage style bars but think they might end up a little too close to me.
Cruise control is awesome. If it was an option and I knew how good it was I would of paid for it. To be able to give either hand a break from riding for a few minutes at a time is fantastic.
I left the screen at home for comparison and because it was supposed to be 37 on the saturday. I think I will put up with the heat and leave the screen on next time as the difference in comfort at highway speeds is very noticeable. On the heat I have not noticed any thigh burn or other issues that are mentioned regarding the touring models. It is pretty hot if you pull up at lights after a decent ride but not really any worse than my softail was.
Even without the screen I was in considerably better shape after 650km than I would of been on my softail. The bags are awesome and as many said to me once you have had them you wouldnt want to go without them.
I was getting around 15km per litres at the speed limit or very close to it. If things got any more spirited fuel consumption jumped up considerably. I was always using a few litres more than BT at every stop. I am still surprisingly impressed with the SE255 cams given some of the comments I had read. They do sign off earlier than the Andrews 54H I had in my softail but the amount of torque available in the RPM range you regularly ride in more than makes up for the few HP you drop at the top end. You can comfortably overtake in 6th at 100kph or drop it to 4th and fly past.
I am still getting used to the lean avaliable from the bike and reports from Scott and BT was I had a lot more left than I thought. Bike handles smooth roads brilliantly but was bottoming out occasionally on some of our goat track like roads. I will add a few more psi to the shocks and see if that helps.
First service and new bars soon...
I was originally thinking a set or Reaper wheels and then I saw these...
Yeah you just go to love these new baggers and with a 103 and 255 cams like Surly said they are just bloody awsome!!!!
Hmmmmm
Damned if I know why anyone would want a Black RoadKing with 18" wheels
nobody
Hahaha especially one that is 103 as well
Can't for the life of me think why ?????
Is that why would anybody want one or why does nobody have one?
Very nice looking bike!
Never claimed to be forging new ground, just copying what I have seen and like
Hahahaha
nobody has one, because nobody knows what he likes lol
skin72au
it is an 07 103 cui 18" wheels front and rear,it has adjustable air suspension on the rear,I can set it anywhere from standard height to sitting on the rear tyre.It handles better than standard,as the shocks give a better ride, but if you have it too low you obviously decrease your groundclearance. The front forks also have gold emulators and different springs and oil, also lowered 3/4".
nobody, I just have to tell ya how bloody nice your ride looks one of the best looking RK's I've seen in a while.
How do you like that air ride suspension? How low can you go without getting a harsh ride?
berms.
I grabbed a wind deflector and bullet turn signals from M&M
Hey Surly
I like the wind deflector, what brand is it?
Looks heaps better than the car windscreen that they come with as standard !
nice ride for sure surly...i just put founales air shocks on my bagger...a 2010 ultra limited. 103 with the monsters n stuff...only done 2000 k's so far.
