    Ride report...the first 200kms

I took the last ride on my 07 FXST 200km south to SWHD to trade it in. The Road King had already been 103'ed with SE255 cams, heavy breather and the monster ovals put on. A TTS tune had been slipped in and it was ready to go.

Immediately I missed the cammy idle of the Andrews 54 in the Softail but the monster ovals sound great without being intrusive. The Road King is much larger to sit on than it first appears and my previous comment on how small the touring bikes feel has changed entirely. The fat frame and seat splays your legs out far more than a softail and this combined with the taller seat height left me with a lot less room to get my feet flat on the ground.

As soon as the bike is rolling its size and bulk disappears. Nimble is a strange word to describe a 350kg bike but thats how it feels.

The SE255 cams give a strong pull from idle and maintained that throughout the limited (run in) rpm I used to get home. I was very impressed with the canned tune that didnt give a hint of a backfire or cough. I would guess this is an advantage of an out of the box SE combo.

The brakes are awesome and even a little savage on the fairly softly sprung front end. I am still getting used to the boards but the highway pegs gave plenty of  options for the feet while the backrest made the return trip very comfortable.

The windshield was far better than the 09 streetglide I rode a while back but still gave my helmet a slight rattle around 110kph but I will try a few different helmets and perhaps a 2 inch taller screen before giving up on it entirely.

More reports to follow as it gets run in but so far pretty happy.

    cheers
    Surly
