"All depends on how you ride".

I'm back into bikes after a long absence and finally getting past that reckless Ride Like You Stole It mode. The photo of a totally written off Iron with only 200 miles on the clock that I now have as my screen saver has worked well to slow me down. A bit like putting a photo of a 30 stone person on your fridge door.

Up until now I reckon the range of the Iron I have on order would have been from the servo to my place and back again.

Fuel light on my Nightster comes on around around ~180k's , if I fuel at that I only get around 10 litres in the tank. That is around town with a little highway use. On the highway I'm not really sure as I only went to Brissy on it once (never again lol) but the fuel economy was better, from my bad memory I think I fueled up at 220k's and the light hadn't come on yet.

with my nightster i have the 12.4 tank get around the 160km usually ,maybe 180 if im real light on the throttle but never have i got more than that, another option is the new fuel gauge with leds built into your brake master cylinder thats available for roughly 370 big ones just been released with a heap of other parts n accessories for the 2010 line up.

Yes the Bike will drink a little for about the first 300 or so Ks. Then it should be good for about 210 in total

Well that is about 20km to the litre.

I get about that when I am just going up and down the highway.

Alot less when belting through the twisties.

Hey Lisa, Just keep track for a while as Bucket says and you'll get to know soon enough. If you are not already into the habit of reseting the trip meter at each fill, start doing so... though it sounds like you already do that so I'm probably preaching to the converted ;) You should get the same fuel economy as the guys with the 883C in terms of kms per litre.
With the 1200 at highway cruising it'll be the 160km mark before my light comes on.... my light comes on at 2/3 a tank (so yes, takes around 8 litres). Around town the light is on at 130km. When my light comes on I just note my kms and know that I can go about 1/2 as far again. So if it comes on at 160kms I know I can go about another 80kms. The furtherest I've gone is 233kms and it took 11.5 litres to fill on that occassion. I'm not especially conservative with the throttle though, so when out on a run with others I'll aim to fill up within 200km intervals.
Generally I find my fuel economy is actually better when I keep the rpms over 3000. But I imagine that will be different again with the 883 gearing.
Hope you are having a tonne of fun putting the kms on :)

I was always told if you want to test the Ks you get from a tank you should ride your bike nice, but not too nice. Riding hard uses extra juice, and riding too "softly" does likewise. Maybe someone else can confirm it.

Lisa, got 110 ks, 8 litres from my first tank when the light came on. Obviously it's going to be better once it loosens up. Gil

What's this "light" that everyone is talking about?

I ride mine till it splutters a couple of times then flick it to reserve and start looking for a servo

Eddie, just noting your highway k's, I haven't had a chance to get it over 90 and it was very easy running. How is it at 110? Gil
