It would be great if other states follow.
Yeh, it comes in here in WA next January.
But, what happens if you go look at buying a second hand car that you've seen advertised. You take it for a test drive and some kid runs out in front of you, so it's your fault for being there and he gets hurt badly. What if the car is not registered and therefore uninsured either by the State Public Insurance or the owners own car insurance?
Will we be able to phone up a Police number to check before we get into the car? Unlikely!!!
Mine was tucked up under the rear number plate on my WideGlide. Cop gave me a hard time 'cos it was mounted on the bottom right corner of the plate and not the bottom left corner. Arsehole!
In NSW you can go onto the RTA website under free registration check and check if the car is actually registered. Dont know about other states.
Fair point Frank but only any use if you have a roaming Internet laptop with you when you go car shopping!! )
Sometimes most of the details are on the add, if not ring owner and ask for the required details and do the checks before leaving home. Most people will oblige if they wish to sell the vehicle. I have my own checklist created on word which I use. My Laptop follows me where ever I go except when riding.
This checklist seems exhausting, but it only takes 15 min of your time for the inspection and maybe 10 min for the electronic checks. How much do you go through when purchasing a property? Your vehicle is normally the second largest purchase that you do in life. If the vehicle sells to someone else, that vehicle was not meant to be in your life. Buyer beware.
looks like I won't have much use for this then does it.......
