Have been working on putting a rubber mount dyna twincam motor and trans into a 70 shovel frame, has any one else done this before?. I know this sounds cruel to the purists, but the frame was already wrecked by somebody trying to fit an evo so I thought what the hell, modern drivetrain in a pre ADR bike!

Thought i'd put some photos of progress so far starting with the original damaged frame.

    Original Frame

Cut the centre out for a concept fit whole back bone needs to be raised about 50mm.

Point of no return, I decided to replace downtubes and backbone as these were all bent and buchered. Not much Shovel left here.

Mockup and fitting of new 1/8 wall DOM tube.

All tacked up and working on footpeg mounts. Going to frisco the sporty tank.

    Rear Mount setup

Front mount, I will reinforce once I have worked out floorboard mounts.

    Top Mount

Had rebuild front of Dyna swingarm to fit between frame rails. Will have reinforcing plates top and bottom when finished.

To get frame modifications like this approved, you have to apply to Queensland Transport with vehicle and modification details which includes drawings, dimensions, weld details, cross sections etc. once approved and the bike is finished, you need a final report from an experienced professional engineer certifying that the vehicle is safe, send all this in, then you get your certificate of modification. then it can be registered as the vehicle stated on the original application. sounds like a lot of mucking around but all of this I can do myself.
