Just put a new fuel cap and 3 inch tank rise on the nighster. Now I have to find a coil relocation mount from somewhere so I can mount it to the heads and then tuck all the wiring under the tank.

Saw 4 nightys in ackland St on the weekend. One was a real pearler of a bobber. 3 inch tank raise, wires under the tank, coil relocation, progresive shocks11.5 inch, some crazy fuel cap, mini apes, dice for tyre tube caps, white walls with a red line under the white wall and a kind of quilted badlander seat. Looked awsome. Had my bike next to it and beside that was a street bob done up into a bobber. It was great to see all the punters stop and take photo's and talk a bit of smack.

    Nice jimmy,

ive been thinking about doing the same but was hoping to do the wire tuck without the tank rise... After looking on xlforum.net heaps of guys have got into, some with 1.5 to 2 inch tank rise and some without the rise. (can be done through strategic positioning of plug joins or remove and solder wires together....) If you can find a horn mount bracket off later models and make up a L bracket to mount the coil too your in business... some guys just get some flat stock and drill and bend to fit... Id rather find the horn mount bracket, ive only stumbled across chrome ones aftermarket tho, so keepin up the search for the gloss..

One issue i got with the tank rise is deminishing fuel economy, due to the angle of the tank in relation to the pickup! If you do it can you take a note of your fuel usage and share the results..

Did you happen to get some happy snaps of yours and the bikes from the weekend?

Leads are leads. I would think they would be ok. All they have to do is carry some current from A to B, so as long as they are terminated correctly at each end, I would say the affect to the performance would be negligable if any. I would certainly be interested in knowing if they turn out to be a good buy?

Nightster / Sportsters r the most under rated bike harley Make,They got a lot going for them. I used to bag my mates who owned them sayin they only had half a harley or its a girls bike!

I stand corrected since buyin a nightster for my wife & riding it i am converted. My wife was content to leave it stock but i sneaked a couple of bits hear & there.Progressive Spring, 2" over in the front ,Icon adjustable on the back,Race tuner reconfigured Screamin Eagle Slipons.K&N filter

Here Here. There's nothin wrong with them. You can bobber them or bomber them. They are a great bike to customize. Everyday someone comments on mine. Get a 3 inche tank rise on them and some 32 inch drag bars and they look real old school. I got a 3 inch tank rise kit off ebay for about 32 bucks AU.

You have to do so much to the other Harleys to make them look good, but 3k on a Nighster can really do the trick. I'll get another Harley, but I reckon I will always keep the Nighster. I might even put mini apes on it and a solo spring seat. The race tuner really makes them hammer.

Ok then smacksters. Lets flap gums about seats. The stock seat, is too fat looking in my opinion. Just picked up the new 2010 Harley parts catalogue and am considering that new fandangled brown springer seat. It comes with a plate that covers the EFI computer and that sound like the ducks guts. I wonder if I can order one cheaper from the states?

I carry a chick around alot and have a badlander seat that I put on for her but I think it looks to new school for a nightster and she says its really painful after an hour and a half (the seat that is - not my dong - which is painful after 10 minutes).

What I intend on doing is getting rid of the badlander and stock seat and using the spring seat, and then get a pillion for when she gets on the back.

    Any comments about nightster seats?

IMHO that harley spring solo looks like shit, its fat enough to hold a rhino!!!! theres some really nice sleek ones out there... A and R motorsport (us) offer a nice one which doesnt need the purchase of an external seat pan, just the springs. Exotic choppers have a good set up, but seat springs and seatpan and hardware will set you back around 500us, they do look good tho with a range of stitching and colour options..

Ok team - The nightster seat story - Just bought a new seat from US - will arrive in about 10 days. Its called the Mustang Tripper. Got the rear seat as well for the chick if she wants to go for a spin. She reckons the badlander is a pain in the ass. I recken the Mustang Tripper is the only real option for a 07 - 09 nightster so  that you maintain a low look and get an significant increase in comfort with a rear option.

The Badlander is hard on the pillion and a bad rear option.

The Le Pera seats are not much chop for comfort, but certainly do look better than stock.

The stock seat is too wide and hard and the rear seat for the stock seat looks friggin doofus

The new springer seat only comes in Brown and wont go on 07 - 09 due to the ECM placemnt under the seat

Sure as shit the Mustang tripper (or possibly the Mustang Vintage) is the best option I could come up with.

And by the way - how do I get to create that part at the bottom of the post where I can name my bike and all the mods. Is it done in the signature?

The badlander is not crap, its the best lookin two up seat Harley make but you will have to stop every hour on long trips.

Just finished with the wire relocation under the tank to get a clear view between the front rocker and the frame. Used the sportster horn mount and bracket to relocate the coil and the ignition. Then everything went "guts up". The horn bracket did not appear to hold the coil like I was advised. On further inspection from photos I have, i could have done it but the coil would only be held to the bracket by 1 bolt not two

So in summary I remounted the ignition between the rocker covers but had to leave the coil where it was. I did a great job but not an awsome job. You can now get a nice view over the front rocker cover, but I still have the coil preventing a perfect clean look. I will have another crack at it when I get some spare time. The second time should be a breeze as I now know what to expect.

If you are going to raise the tank and relocate the wires under the tank, be prepared for one fuck of a fiddly job. and get plenty of cable ties and a roll or two of black electrical tape as well as some loctite.

If anyone in Melbourne wants to do this, then I will be prepared to give you a hand because there are a few traps for young players. The wire relocation is a two person job. You have to pull out the fuel pump and remove the tank.

The Harley horn mount is appropriate for the job but it would be better to get a different bracket for the coil. which you could make if you had a metal drill, some metal and someting to cut the metal with and bend the metal 90 degrees. strong aluminium would be appropriate and easy.

Nice one - i was looking at this the other day, Yep it surely could be done, but its a bit of fabrication and a respray.

Unfortunately I reckon you could be lookin at $1000 bucks for this mod.

I have a 3 inch tank rise and the angle may be robbing me of a litre and a half. The riser has a 2 inch rise hole and I may select this instead of the 3 inch which might drop the rob down to 3/4 of a litre.

I am thinking the 3 inch rise is a little too steep.

I agree, I am putting on 11.5 progressives tommorrow. You cant turn the bike into a true bomber with a raised ass end (A bomber is my version of a modern bobber - compact black bike with computerized fuel management, raised tank, no front guard, drag bars, drag pipes and lowered rear end to make the bike look a bomber taking off).

Dunno about ALDI though, I know you can pick up cheap cans of red salmon as well as a good copy of the mars bar there.

I wonder if 11.5 progressives are "strictly" roadworthy. I am sure they are ok, what do you reckon. I'm just wondering if I need to keep the stock ones for a roadworthy.

Next week I'll do the race tuner and heavy breather. I am still in two minds if the heavy breather will fit into the theme of a bomber.
