I am starting a topic in the Sportster section for those who specifically want to "TALK SMACK" about the very cool - HARLEY NIGHTSTER.

So she may be one of the cheaper Harleys, but she goes like shit of a shovel.

    Naysayers unwelcome.

I like the look of them, but the suspension worries me .

I was wondering , how do they handle our shitty back roads, and do they corner at speed ?

I picked up my nightster in may it handles great, the front suspension sucks but I hear there is progressive front springs available, the rough roads causes it to bottom out in the front end occaisionally

Gotta agree with chillian, sticks like glue.. Bit rough on the bumps aswell. Its just so light and nimble for a hd.
The gains achieved from the v&h short shots, stage 1 ac and ecu upgrade are phenominal..
bang for buck its a great ride...
Mods are never ending in the quest for originality!!

What ecu upgrade did you decide to go with fuel pack or SE?

Sure this bike handles very well and it is sticky. I ride two up most weekends with no change to the suspension and it hasn't presented me with any problems, the odd bang from the front end on a reasonable bump. Don't think I'd like to get a surprise on a ditch in the middle of the road.

I went S and S slip ons without an upgrade to the ecu, had one very small backfire in the 400k's since I installed the pipes and I cant notice any popping on decal. It does appear to idle a little high though. I have to ride the clutch under about 20K's as it just wants to take off. I cant free roll in 1st with the clutch out or she jumps and studders a little.

I do however have the fuel light come on at 100K's. Apparently some of the bikes do this and there doesn't appear to be much you can do about it. From what I have read, the dealers don't take this problem seriously under warranty. But all in all, shes a mean machine. Don't intend to post picks until I get the Santee 32 inche drag bars from US later this week. Still looks to stock to show off. But the bars will set that straight.

    Jimmy,

I went for the SE pro super tuner. Using the recomended standard settings right now, great bottom end but seems to drop through the mid rev range. Pops and splutters a little aswell. Might see if they can try another map when it goes in for a service next.

Jimmy Jazz, a Harley is a Harley is a Harley is a Harley. And besides even the cheaper ones cost plenty because they are worth it. No other brand has half the character. If all you want is transport, buy a Holden. Love the Nightster, though I have an Iron on order (which I saw for the first time in Chicago last week). I did see a bloke show up at the dealers though with a Nightster he was trading. $13,000 with 1500ks on it but idiot that I am I didn't get his name. I should have bought it from him before he traded. Still kicking myself. All the best with the Nightster JJ. Gil

I was getting some parts for the nightster from  Rollies and the guy said they distribute the Victory he reckons they are a great bike and have a better quality than even Harley, and he asked if I would be interested. When I said no, he asked why. I said it doesn't matter what the claims are on the Victory Bike, it isn't a Harley Davidson. I agree, they are all nice bikes, I have seen 880 sporties done up and lookin ACE. I have been doing my mods myself accept for a few tricky things, I hate it when my bike is in the shop for a few days.

Sure, you could the map tweaked and get another curve programmed in. The standard settings would be a good baseline I imagine, so they are probably only a few % off the mark

Has anybody done some dyno runs with the stock set up against their mods. (pipes, ac etc??)

If so what gains and what mods????

Whats the approx increase in hp?? 5 to 7 sound reasonably acceptable??

Sorry for the late reply - Been moving interstate and had no internet connection for a week. NO you will not need to change the module for sideshots. The stock ECM will compensate but you may get occassional popping on deceleration, but nothing to worry about. The Stock ecm will compenate 5 - 7 %. You only need to change the ECM etc if you upgrade the air filter as well. The reason I say this is because I know a guy who did the same thing a few months ago and NO PROBLEMS were encountered. All the best.

well i finally got my 14" apes (zbars) on and all internally wired.. looks the money now. just waiting on the new set of braided cables and brake line to turn up. Went for a burn around the block (re routed the cables {straightened the stock brake line}) arm position is surprisingly comfy. Ill put some pics up when its finished in the pics section so you can all have a look.

If any of you have a spare nightster brake rod available, I need one to modify. Thanks, Matt.

Hey Captain If I had a spare I would have just cut and rewelded it, or Tapped one end and welded a connector nut to the other to make it adjustable, alternativley I'll pull it to bits and buy some rod ends and make one. The reason I want a spare is if  I  make mods to the wifes bike that she's not happy with, then I can always return it to how it was. I''ll let you know how it goes. Thanks, Matt.
