Seat Change

I am needing to change seats on my Nightrain, I have found that my tail bone gets very numb on long rides ... shame because I really like the look of the stock badlander seat and do find it comfortable enough on short rides.

Has anyone else had the same problem and can suggest a seat that will fix my sore arse

    Thought about a sundowner ... suggestions/comments?

    Hey Lasttrain.

I've got the HD Brawler solo seat coming in the next few days.  It's also got a split passenger pillion seat that can adapt to it for riding two up.

Not to sure if it'll help the numb tailbone thing though.

Talked to a guy today that has an Airhawk on his 06 Triumph speedmaster, rekons it is a big help but still didn't completly solve the numb ass problem ... will keep trying to test a custom or standard seat, not sure about the sissy bar for the custom seat though, I already have a black detachable rack and bar that spends most of it's time off the bike ???

thanks heaps for the suggestions so far, anyone tried an aftermarket or custom seat like mavrick or corbin ?

The original softail standard seat was the most uncomfortable seat I have ever sat on for a long ride, anything over 250km just sucks. What to do - buy a second hand softail standard seat and get John Moorehouse (Ergo Seats) at Capalaba to re-upholster it for you. I did, and 800km in a day is no worries, and it looks the goods. He will also change anything with the seat that you are not happy with after it has been finished, free of charge, no matter what. He only does motorcycle seats.

It works out to be around $270 approx (if my memory is correct) if you just re-foam the rider part of the seat and have a new cover made or, if you do the whole thing it's about $450. The foam he uses is expensive stuff (so he says) and it is really comfortable. It probably sounds a bit much but, he altered my Harley seat 3 times (my fault not his, I didn't take the bike to him the first time so he could measure me up while I was sitting on it) and made two new covers without any extra charge. I have had John make seats for three of my bikes and was and am very happy with all of em. The thing you might want to consider before buying another Harley seat is that the foam is still just the same cheap shit that is in your Badlander. Google John Moorehouse, he has a web site. His brother also does seats but I haven't dealt with him.

Cheers Peter ... prices sound alright, am thinking custom may be the way to go that way I should be able to get a seat that will suit me first time round no stress.

    will check him out.

You are probably right, and thinking back it was probably more my lower back that hurt the most because of the angle of the seating position, but the seat I have now is just worlds apart in terms of comfort. I just recently rode my 05 Z1000 (which has a little triangular nothing seat ) over 2000km in three days and it was much more comfortable (for me) than the original seat on the softy. Go Figure ??

I put the Bare Bones on mine. I was getting a numb arse with the softtail standard seat anyway so I thought I may as well look cool....at least until I get off and start hobbling around like a cripple.

I have known of John Moorhouse for many many years, and his reputation seems to only get better with time

I have the sundowner on my standard.

It is as ugly as it is comfortable. It takes a few seconds to swap seats  for a longer ride.

    cheers
