Throttle didn't shut off

    Hi all.

Had a problem on Friday. Was cruising south along the Hume to get out of Sydney for the weekend. Had to slow right down and weave my way thru traffic at Casula, and I noticed that the throttle didn't shut off completely. Engine was buzzing about 2000rpm (estimate, no tach) when I pulled in the clutch. I had been using the cruise control, so I made sure that it was off, but the problem persisted. I tried forcing the throttle against the stop, blipping the throttle, etc, but the engine still revved.

I finally had to stop for traffic, and lo-and-behold the revs dropped to a normal idle. Didn't do it again.

    Haven't got fly-by-wire.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks Scotty,

Cables could cause it, but mine are fine. Remember, I couldn't force it closed, so it can't be the cable sticking.

IAC tract? Is that somewhere near my arse?

Intake leaks - wouldn't the problem happen all the time? And how would I check for them?

Starting to sound like it could be mapping glitch or possibly a faulty engine speed, temp or even o2 sensor ??? I would be getting the stealers to check your bikes, might be hard for them to pin point if it's not a regular thing though.

If the cables have been done too tight too take too much slack out it can happen. I think itll be something cable related meself. The track they run in or its hitting somewhere in the throttle assembly, or just overtight.

I feel if it was an intake leak or something similar it would be there all the time. Losen ya cables off see if it makes a diff ? If not at least it eliminates one of the potential problems it may have been.

It could be crap in the fuel causing it to foul somewhere. Does the IAC tract like scotty described have fuel pass through it? generally wont be caused by a particular brand of fuel though as in most states all the fuels come from the same import ships and are stored in combined holding tanks.

I used to have a Triumph TT600 that was sensitive to fuels, it hated 91 ran like a bag of shit on it, missed and stalled at intersections idled up and down all the time, put Premium in and away she went no dramas at all purred like a kitten ... only started playing up on 91 after I had changed to a sport muffler and had it remapped to suit ????

I have been running premium (mixed brands) in the Nightrain since I picked it up from the stealer, no problems yet.

    Great news:

I've found my pintle. And it does what Scotty said. Well, half of what Scotty said. When I turn on the ignition it does NOTHING. Boring, really. However, when I turn off the ignition it cycles just like Scotty said, and it makes a little farting noise when it touches the edges of the throttle body. Cute.

Anyway, there's a lot of black shit everywhere, so I'll get some carby cleaner. Does it matter if carby cleaner loaded with black shit goes down the intake tract?

Speaking of tracts, I discovered that the IAC tract was only near my arse when I was standing on the carby side and facing away from the bike. When I was on the other side it was nowhere near my arse, no matter which way I was facing. I've also checked my arse, and there's no black shit in there. Do I still need carby cleaner for that too?

I also discovered that my aircleaner is more of an airdirtier. It's full of shit, black and other types. Probably time to change that.

Also, also, I have to report that my missus was impressed with the size of the inlet tract. And the fact that it was shiny inside.

Also, also, also, the carby butterfly opens ad closes beautifully and completely as I open and close the throttle. Don't think the problem's in the cable.

Will advise the outcome of the cleaner after use.....

Last time my thottle wouldnt close I hit the kill switch and didnt ride off a cliff, but I could have. There was a small stone covered in bitumen stuck on top of the return stop. SHIT design to let that happen.
