Acceptable oil consumption

I want to find out what would be regarded as an acceptable engine oil (Mobile V Twin) consumption on an 07 super glide. Is 1.5 litres after a 7000k ride over two weeks long haul normal?  Next oil check was 0.9 litre after 2900k for  South coast riding. No real city riding in these periods. The bike - 75000km on a stock motor with SE aircleaner and SE slipons.  Spirited riding style but not thrashing.

    Does this consumption sound right?

as the miles roll by, it is hardly surprising to see oil consumption increase
that usage at that mileage is not unheard of by any means
    is it acceptable?
    thats up to you
there will be no stopping it without surgery, thats for sure

I've heard a dealer trying to convince a friend that 1 litre in 2000 km's is acceptable for an air cooled motor, must be true if the dealer says so ???? I think yours is normal.

Thanks for the posts. I got to wonder if its the luck of the draw. My old 03 FXDWG after 76,000k's did not loose any oil other than what was spat out the breathers, my 08 RKC with 36,000k's does not loose a drop and it cops a hiding. Does anyone know if valve guide seals are a known problem with the 96 cube heads? If a motor is burning that amount of oil should I expect to see comming out the exhaust?

according to your figures, you are using between 200 and 300 ml per thousand k's
unless you have a valve guide seal prob, you may well not see any definitive signs of oil from the exhaust
but if you were to do top end gaskets and rings, and valve guide seals (and seat cut) now(assuming all looks alright in there) you would most likely have
a great run for the next 70 odd, just like the first 70
that is what I would do, but it may not suit you
    each to their own
ultimately, the question of whether it is acceptable or not, can only be answered by you

My 2 cents worth,  give it a go as it won't cost you too much just some time.

Get yourself 2 packs of Liqui Moly engine clean, give the engine a treatment with the stuff. Then reload the engine with a cheap oil go for ride and get the motor nice and hot.

Let it cool down a little and put the second pack through the engine, stick your normal oil back in and see how it goes. I had a Motoguzzi with a similar engine oil consumption issue and it didn't completely fix it but improved oil usage by half. Each pack is about 25 bucks.
