Hi guys i'm new on this site, hoping someone can help with a annoying problem.

I've got a 1997 Dyna superglide and the speedo was replaced by M&W in Brisbane i am fairly sure it was replaced with a new sporty speedo as they couldn't get a stock one, this was before i bought it. The problem is that since the new speedo was installed the fuel guage is acting as a rev counter, it only happens when the bike is moving and not when it is stationary, revs up! fuel guage moves with it and back down again when i back off the revs.

Speedo and fuel guage are both electronic and i have had a look and can't find anything obvious, can anyone help? Cheers Pom

The work was done before i bought it, i'll try talking to them but i don't want to take it in and have them say : We've fixed it but it wasn't what we did to it that was the problem, and here is your bill for heaps. Been there done that! Plus if i can fix a problem myself i'd prefer to do that.

Have already checked and cleaned the earth but i suppose a second go at it can't hurt.

assuming an incorrect model speedo, it may be there is a difference in the pin assignment in the connector blocks
with no tacho fitted to more clearly show the problem, the connections to the fuel gauge may now be misdirected, leading to incorrect instrumentation operation

Dynarider i will check out the pin setup, that's the great thing about getting other people involved in trying to solve a problem, you can overlook the simple things cause you can get so focused on one idea. Thanks.      Just a thought, did the 97 dyna originally come out with a taco? if so maybe something is in the incorrect plug.

not on the superglide, but of course, the wiring is common to more than one model

If i disconnect the wire from the speedo that goes into the gearbox and the fuel guage behaves itself then that should prove that the problem does infact stem from the speedo ,yes???

So far i've removed the float from the tank, looked ok; checked the connector from the fuel guage wire looked ok; pulled off all the earth wires i could find and cleaned  and reconnected them; seperated the fuelguage wire from where it lay alongside the speedo wires and lay it away from each other; none of these things changed anything. I'm off work tomorrow so i will pay M&W a visit  and ask their opinion, wish me luck.

Here is the latest from M&W " There is no connection between the speedo and the fuel guage, so they reckon it could be the fuel guage sender."

So why does the fuel guage only move when the speedo does? Their going to get back to me on that one.

Think i'll just live with it for the time being, pretend it's not there.
