28" Drag bars on Nightster

I got drag bars for the nightster and had them powder coated in black.

They are the drag bars that Frasers recommended and are out of the Harley parts Catalogue. They are 28" with a 4" pullback mounted on the stock headstem.

Comment. They are too short, the rubber brake line was bending severly and I couldn't get them on without using undue force. Way to much bending and pressure on the rubber brake line that leads to the steel joiner. Had to put the stock bars back on.

So now I have to either work our whether to get risers, get a shorter brake line, which seems like bleeding the brakes and screwing around cos the old brake line will have to be cut and shortened, forget it or maybe see if 32" bars would be better.

I reckon 28" with 4" pull back bars on a stock headstem are about 2 or 3 inches too short.

Anyone had success with drag bars on a nightster with stock headstem. What bar dimesions did you have and what  problems did you encounter.

Do you have the stock risers and what sort of pullback do you have, broomsticks or say 4 inches.

I was not clear on my problem. Once I put the brakes on, the brake line outlet was hard up against the forks causing bad preesur on the rubber brake line. The brake line could be dameged during cornering. 31 inch sounds like your brake line outlet must miss the forks by about an inch with stock risers.

There was no work around I could see, apart from longer bars or risers. I want a real low look so I would prefer not to get risers.

I reckon another 2 inches on the length of the bar might have sorted out the problem. Also do your bars have the groove underneath for the cables.
