    Im sure people have looked at doing this. it amazes me what harleys and choppers you can in the states. And they seem real cheap. Has anyone done this with any succes.What  would be a reputable bike builder to go through. Dont want to give my money away to anyone. What are the legalities for compliance and rego once in australia.Also i heard its better to bring a bike back in bits as it is then only considered to be bike parts which apparently is cheaper. Has anyone done this?????

    Devo buddy im in the same boat as you mate im looking to buy a prostreet venom its such a good looking bike i found a chopper shop called www.attitudecustoms.com now this guy sells the kits and has sold a kit to a guy in melb and that guy in melb flew him down to reassemble it for him and he reckons he had dramas with getting it registered due to the rake no ive had people tell me you cant and you can under ICVs but the big bear choopers are not custom bikes there a production bike so there for these bikes would of had to been egineered for such a use now however theres http://www.ultimatechoppers.com.au/  has stated on there website that "

    U.C.A along with it's authorised dealers are the only legal A.D.R approved B.B.C manufacturers available in Australia. U.C.A holds the full volume compliance for these motorcycles which makes them A PRODUCTION MOTORCYCLE which means individuals and other bike shops cannot get these motorcycles registered in any state of Austalia, including I.C.V's

    so the question is wat the fuck is the go right well who knows cause i sure dont wat the go is but if you download the

    Guide to the importation of privately owned motor vehicles or motorcycles it states there u can get a bike Registered but have to get 3 approvals

    (1) Obtain a "VEHICLE IMPORT APPROVAL" from the Vehicle Safety Standards Branch of the Department of Transport and Regional Services (see the notice below);

    2) Pay customs duty, goods and services tax (GST) and, where applicable, Luxury Car Tax, and obtain a customs clearance at the port of entry; and

    (3) Obtain quarantine clearance from the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service after the vehicle has arrived at the port of entry.  anyway Devo get back to me and let me know wat info you found regarding this etc id like to know asmuch i  can before i import the kit over thanks bud

    Yes my story is the same as above. I know of a guy who bought one from attitude customs already built and had it shipped here. Last i heard he was still having trouble.

    What all people keep telling me is this

    " you cannot engineer a motorcycle as a ICV if it started its life as a production vehicle" this can be said for Harley,honda,bigbear etc etc. Even if you buy a harley or bigbear frame and intend to build a chopper from that. You legally cant because the frame comes from a production vehicle. Now if you put all the parts of a big bear onto a aftermarket frame built to the same specs???. That may be possible.

    Also Ultimate choppers did say that if you were to aquire a american bigbear kit bike. They could sell you a spares kit to make it Australian legat but ofcoarse at a cost and they would have to approve the final product. That may be a little cheaper.

    They know what we all want to do and they are working hard to stop you. If you can find a engineer to pass it as a ICV then well done but be aware it will not be legal if found out and bigbear suppliers are on the lookout for non legit bikes.

    My thoughts exactly. Buy a complete bike. Get them to partially dissasemble it in the states.( As long as the wheels and forks are not fitted it is considered motorcycle parts and at most you would have to pay about 10% tax and that is if they catch it when it arrives in country). Get a frame built to similar specs as the big bear. ( Sled pro street will need the rake changed from 44 to 40 sled chopper is fine). Rebuild in country with a few changes for australian ADR( Theres a few but not too bad). Take this to a engineer and as long as it meets all Australian requirement you will be fine.

    Just remember the real show stopper is the frame. If its a big bear frame IT CANT BE USED.

    I wish you the very best of luck Mike. That Ultimate Venom is an awesome bike. I would love to own one but, like you, the price in Oz puts me off. It looks like importing a car is a piece of piss compared to a bike. I did this recently with no great problems. I'm keen to hear how you go with DOTARS. I can't really see how you can avoid Compliance as they fit a Compliance Plate to the vehicle (in the case of a car) and the Rego guys look for this plate first. No plate, no rego.
    I resigned myself to the belief that the only way to get one is to go and live in the USA for a year, get a bit of casual work here and there and bring the bike back under Personal Import. I think you could do this without a Work Permit but I'm not at all sure. They certainly check that you were there for the whole year!!

    I wonder what happens if you go to Germany to buy a Porsche for half the Oz price and try and get it in. You can be sure that there's a rule that stops you. The Fun Police are everywhere! The big retailers somehow managed to get the Customs, Excise, Taxman etc to help support their profits. It sucks.

    Good luck mate!
