I'm interested in comments on the following engine setup:

09 Fatbob, looking for mid/upper power.

SE Kompressor heads 17050-08 with stock pistons (10.5 with .030 gasket, 9.6 ccr)

    SE 257 cam

Anyone had experience with these heads ?

Sounds like a cheap combo that should make 90+hp

I can get the heads for around $900 au

    Cheers

i have looked into the gen hd heads issue a little
i dont see Kom heads as good value..... there is no clear evidence of any significant flow increase that i have been able to uncover
    merely higher comp
and certainly not mid high power, def designed for low end punch, as a cheapy bolt on
103 + heads seem good for HD, but of course are not for 96
port and valve sizes on the stockers are more than adequately sized for96
some would say too adequately sized( i am not a fan of big ports or valves myself)
if you were to clip your own heads, and give them a lil clean up, i imagine they would match the K heads at least
that would be even cheaper i would think

Is their any drama's getting the stock heads up to similar compression ?

Machining them doesn't cause any other drama's ?

If it is as simple as skimming the heads and a .030 gasket, then that would have to be the better

option, and allow a few $ for a simple port cleanup.

Would the $$ spent on this work, including new valve springs add up to be similar ?

K heads have a reduced chamber area
you could do that with pistons as well
the more you clip, the nearer things get to each other
go to bigboyzheadporting to use their calculator for comp ratio
