TTS Review

For those who are considering a TTS and would like a review from a total novice when it comes to EFI and tuning motors this may be of interest.

When I bought my 103 08 RKC, I had a problem with it bogging down off the lights especially when it was hot, which was most of the time.  I cruised the forums looking for answers as the dealers or HD were unable to come up with any immediate solution other than having me try various fixes as they guessed their way through.  They did eventually come up with a fix which left me out of pocket and commited to mapping that if I eventualy changed due to further engine mods would have left me on my own.  The bike eventually just ended up tuned in open loop and guzzled fuel as it made a half arsed attempt at keeping up with stock 96ers.

Not satisfied with the quality of the resolution (and embarrasing ride) I floated my problem out into cyber space and Scotty (by the way I dont know Mr. Straigth to the Point) came up with what was seemingly an easy solution, use the TTS and tune my bike.  This attacted my attention and for a while I read threads on this and other forums before I finally bought a TTS.  I should point out that without being a computer wizard I am able to work my way around computers and generally dont have a problem with running software or understanding geek speak.  I am also prepared to put in the time to go through the learning curve which I think you need to be prepared to do.

After I bought the TTS the first thing I did was to print out the manuals and read them twice with hope of comming to terms with my lack of EFI knowledge.  So once I felt confident enough I (with a little help) selected the map and programed the ECM.  The bike of course started and ran fine but mapping the VE's and getting the best tune I could was the focus.  The 211 cam required about 10 VTune runs and that took a little time to get through - but worth it!  After having the final VTunes and map looked at by Scotty, I have programed the ECM with what is the first of many maps to come.  Now I could just stay with this map and be happy but I want to change exhaust and do heads and generally enjoy my bike so I figure theres more tuning to do.  Going through the first programing and VTune process has basically taken me through the learning curve (have not mucked around with timing yet but will) and I feel very confident  that I can easily VTune a bike.

Oh the bike absolutly fly's.  No bogging down, throttle response immediate, screams mid to high range and all in closed loop.  The others are eating dust.  I would never had picked that setting the correct VE's would have such an affect on a motor.  I did say I did not know alot about EFI.

I do think that if you want set and forget this is not for you but if you are a little patient and are prepared to sus things out a little it will pay off big time.

Anyway thanks Scotty, maybe I can buy you a beer one day.

You might have to have a strong constitution cause I think Scotty is in SA and we all know that SA piss is rugged stuff - I can still taste the Coopers, West End and Southwark when I first tried it in the Seventies....http://www.intreeg.spiderweb.com.au/ausbeerlabels/beerlabels/labels/sa.htm
