what exactly is a front mount gap check and how do you do it?

Front mouth gap check is done on your missus and should be zero........

Oh sorry, you mean a front MOUNT gap check. I'm assuming you should have a gap between the solid piece mounted to the engine and solid piece mounted to the frame with nice clean looking rubber holding the two bits together. If it's too small, the rubber mount is knackered and you will get the two bits of mount hitting each other, hence you will feel vibration through the frame.

I should check this out on my '08 because it vibrates considerabley more than my Sporty did.

I made a 2.0mm plate for the front engine mount, better than washers and easier to fit............works good....... 

Its a real simple fix KC, I did purchase longer bolts for extra purchase to the mount and with a true track  front and rear you can definitely notice a difference................. 

Yeah KC this is one mod you will have to do onya Dyna.
Ditto on the longer bolts, mine is shimmed 6mm at the front mount (just washers).

1 question for doing this. Do I have to have the bike on a bike stand??? Or can I do this sitting on the side stand??? I ask because I'm wondering if the bike being on a lean would cause the motor to fall to one side not giving an accurate reading....

yeah i machined up a tapered spacer for mine the gap was bigger on one hole cant remember now if it was top or bottom
