Lisa it make no sense to me. I can understand them warehousing them before displaying so that the floor stock gets sold, but obviously you and I won't be buying any old stock since we have the deposit down on the Iron. They might as well hand them over!
Yahoo! I'd better get cracking and sell my old Kwaka then. If my dealer dealys I'll get it elsewhere. Aren't you worried that when you get the iron you will have been bike-less for so long you'll forget how to ride
The delivery is a good idea. I have to get it from Alexandria to Manly so having never ridden anything bigger than a 250 I'm going to hoon around the back-streets for a bit before risking the fast heavy traffic in the harbour tunnel.
EVERYONE: I know the 883 is said to be underpowered but what differences will I have to watch out for after the 250? How is it going to catch me out?
Lisa why are you getting the sissy bar with the solo seat? is it for luggage?
Hi All
Did not really intend this to be my first post after lurking for so long, but I could not resist. I have an Iron 883 on order for myself, and have been waiting very impatiently over the past few weeks/months.
I never considered myself a Harley type of rider after 32 years of riding, but have had my head turned around by recent events. My wife is somewhat vertically challenged, and she found out after much research, and many different bikes owned (including a Ducati Monster..) that an 883Low was one of the only non-250s that actually was a suitable choice. I rode it and loved it so much that I am trading my R1 in on the Iron when they finally arrive.....
So, my reason for writing this is to let you guys know that riding the Harley is actually way easier and more comfortable than riding my wifes other bike- a Suzuki 250 Intruder. The riding position is far more neutral than the feet- forward of the 250, and the extra weight makes it sit so much better on the road. Yes, the weight is noticeable as you pick it up from the stand, but after that the low centre of gravity of the bike, and the smooth spread of power make the bike so effortless and fun to ride. Lack of power is just not an issue with riding this bike, but if you ever feel like you need more, and REALLY want to lose your licence, then there is always the option of a 1200 conversion. But when you have enough power to easily beat the traffic (even two up) then who really cares..........
Hope this is of some help to those waiting as impatiently as I am.
Cheers
Eddie (Birch)
LISA: that looks great. Obviously you were not disappointed Will the next two weeks never end? I've changed my ming about the laced wheels and have gone back to the original alloys. I rang my dealer after your note and got the same story as you on delivery. How did you feel about the drag bars? If they feel too far forward I'll get a black set identical to the 883 Low which has the best riding position I have tried.
EDDIE: Thanks for the encouraging feedback. I've been concerned by the constant criticisms of the 883 as being underpowered so have been considering a SE Heavy Breather. After your comments I might wait a bit to see how I go. I'm also encouraged by your report on it being easy to ride. I'll stop worrying about it now.
Wow!
Thanks for the awsesome photos, Lisa. You are so privileged to be able to see, and photograph one in the flesh(metal).
And for Taffymarsden, I would suggest waiting for the bikes arrival to change ANYTHING. Those mags that are so ugly on the 2009 Sporty actually seem to look good with the black accents on the Iron (we ordered my wifes Low with Laced wheels). And I had considered a Heavy Breather kit too, but my wife has vetoed that (for now..) on the basis that it looks freakin' hideous.
And before getting pipes you might want to hear it stock, as the Low sounds ok at idle, and is easily and cheaply modified if ya know how . My wifes bike now sounds better than street legal SE's and was WAY cheaper.
As for rideability, it all comes down to what you want from the bike. I am used to insanely powerful sportbikes, but I find that I really enjoy just riding the Harley at legal speeds and when you get down to it, it is all about what feels good, which I suppose is the main reason why most us ride bikes in the first place..............
Eddie
lofty, that dog is sick man is it yours
Just spoke to my dealer and he still can't confirm final price or delivery date, but he did book me in for a test ride.......on October 17!!!!
Somebody tell me what the hell is goin' on here!!!
LISA you look very very cool on that bike! Go gal. I'm counting on getting mine next week so what the heck is this mid Oct date all about? We have had ours on order for the same time. I want to be selling a product like this that is such a sure thing that you don't need to give a s**t about the customer. Bugger...
Now that's a V-Twin Grin Congrats Lisa, the waits been worth it.
on ya sister...now get on the thing and ride like there is no tomorrow...
Lisa and Eddie, definite delivery on mine next Wednesday. Yeehaa!
I'm thinking of putting the black #1 plate on the Derby Cover. I'm guessing the black ones were scuffing.
