I was able to ride one of the Irons last week. Fun ride. Quick and nimble like the Nightster and looks really cool in all Black. Your going to enjoy it Madness.
Not long to wait Lisa, you should get yours by the end of September ????
Thanks Kingshots.
Earplugs? I think you answered my question! I'd like to hear them in the flesh before committing.
For that price on a new bike $1600 for on-roads sound about right to me.
Lisa, just to make you jealous I'll be in Chicago this weekend and will be heading straight to a HD dealer to see one in the flesh. If it's crap I'll let you know I'm ok to wait on delivery a bit longer...gives me more time to sock some $ away. Gil
Lisa, Trivetts emailed me a price on extras like SE pipes and Stage 1 airfilter etc and added that these prices are "before discounts". I don't get the impression they are going to rip me off too much, considering that I'm like you and would sell my grandmother for one of these. Not a great bargaining position.
I don't think you need worry I'll come back from the US with a negative impression because every review I've read has been positive. Even one on a US site where in May the reviewer tested a Dyna and said he didn't like it at all, in part because "I'm just not a Harley guy". In July he road the Iron and raved! He said something like "this is the ultimate bike for cruising on a Saturday night in an open face helmet and sneakers...not that I'd ever encourage anyone to ride in such inappropriate attire of course!" I don't know the site but you'll find it if you have a sniff around on Google.
Off to the airport right now - next stop: Harley Land! You'll hear from me Gil
Not the first time some girl tried to pretend she didn't know me Lisa
Ok - here's the report: I went to a dealer in Boston and the first bike I saw was an Iron, right in the driveway. It looks 100% as stunning in the flesh as in the photos. Then I had a set-back. Right beside it was a black, heavily chromed 1200 low (not available in Oz) that was the most stunning Sporty I've ever see. I had a bad moment thinking I might have made a mistake going for the dark look but later changed my mind again. I like the minimalist look that sort of says you are not a poser but just go for the raw biking experience. Total bullshit of course...
This is a serious bad-arse bike. It looks very dull. I think "dull" is the right word - I don't mean this to sound negative, it's the deliberate style and it looks great. Like you painted it yourself in the back yard then let it fade. It's very low (though the OZ version is jacked up a bit at the back) and smaller than I imagined. I know it is essentially identical to the 883 low but looking at them side by side the Iron is, to my taste, much more impressive. No offense to 883 low owners of course, it's just my personal opinion.
The drag bars are interesting because they force you to sit straight armed and hunched a bit forward. A bit uncomfortable at first but I'm going to stick with it and get used to it because it makes for a more aggressive sporty feel and (really important!) when I had a perve at my reflection in the HD window I looked pretty cool if I say so myself
They must be selling heaps of these because the Iron was displayed in pride of place and I thought the price was high compared to the other sportys in stock. USD 7999. The 1200 with all the extras was only an extra USD 2000 so the demand must be for the Iron.
I was willing to change to another model if I wasn't happy once I saw the real thing so the fact that I've swung back to wanting the Iron is a good sign. You can be comfortable that you've made the right decision. Now I REALLY can't wait for delivery. Come on!
Safe riding, Gil
Coolest Iron shots ever! And on a skateboarding site! Shows the funny forward drag bar seating position well. And check out photo #3! (That's enough exclamation marks but they are great shots...)

NOW you want one of these - IMHO the world's best beach cruiser. Hope the real thing lives up to the anticipation.
Thanks for the feedback Alby. I've ordered the Iron with SE slip ons and have changed the order so often previoulsy I might give the dealer a break and stick with those. For now anyway
That's a great looking bike your mate has. I'd like to hear those pipes!
A lot of buyers will be putting pressure on your dealer to get their 2010 Harleys delivered first Lisa. Make sure you get the dealer committed to the delivery of you bike on a set date.
Not long to go now, looking forward to seeing it & meeting you at Edenhope. Have fun on it.
Lisa I called into my dealers yesteray and they said maybe November now because they won't release them until the current 09 floor stock has been sold. I'm pretty sick of waiting and might get something else if there is no certainty about the delivery date. I understand they do have some here for journalist reviews.
