No faults after unplugging exhaust actuator motor

Hi guys. This arvo I disconnected the plug to the exhaust actuator servo motor to see what fault code would come up on the dash. I made sure the butterfly was open before disconnecting it. Started her up and went for a ride around town, but nothing came up. I assumed the engine light would come on or something. Is that what should have happened? Should it come up straight away?

I've ordered the exhaust actuator eliminator from Big Joe anyway.

So what does this exhaust actuator do?

It's a noise control device in the Euro and Aussie bikes. In 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear at certain rpm and speeds it closes a butterfly in the upper exhaust header that diverts the exhaust to the lower exhaust pipe. This apparently reduces the noise and being a restriction I reckon it would reduce performance.

maybe there is no fault ?

I had a sneaky suspicion thats what it did as I was riding to the noise. I.e. finding the rev range that made the most noise and sticking to it.

I'll unplug mine tomorrow and see what the result is

You will most likley find the fault code will be come up when the didital tech is plugged in on your next service. Its not really an issue though and dosent affect how the bike runs.

Just be careful that the flap dosent close without you knowing. you can lock it open with a small self tapping screw or buy a wedge from HD that keeps the valve open.

Type Exhaust valve into the search part of the forum for a full discussion on the valve.

Hooked up the SERT this morning and checked out the data mode. Didn't have any codes in the history or current codes.

I'll still attach the eliminator from Big Joe anyway. That way if I get any faults or engine light coming on I'll know that it isn't the exhaust valve. Plus it'll cap the end of the lead so it doesn't fill up with crap and dirt. I only brought it up because I'd read that someone had a code come up after installing V&H pipes and disconnecting the actuator motor. I thought it was wierd that mine didn't.

    Thats interesting.

I got the eliminators from big joe as well. Good service.

I'm going to disconect mine today just to see what comes up. I will be able to check it through the T/Max. I'll let you know.

    Unplugged mine today.

No faults and no chance of it closing on its own accord. Cable driven by solenoid.

    Sounds much better
