Has anyone used or is using SPECTRO PLATINUM HEAVY DUTY FULL SYNTHETIC GL-5 6-SPEED GEAR OIL 75W140.
What are you thoughts on it?
I've had the Spectro trannie oil in for about 1000Km so far and there is a definite improvement in the operation - nothing major, but neutral is easier to find and the box just seems smoother. Cannot comment on the 4th & 5th gear noise as I never really considered it an issue and could rarely hear it over the exhaust. I'll certainly stick with it, and may look at their synthetic engine oil down the track. The reviews and forum comments coming out of the US are very positive for all their products.
Been looking for Spectro Platinum and gearoil in Melbourne, anyone know who stocks it?

bozhog,
Tried to send a message through the business directory with no luck.
Price list for the oils would be a good start.

Hey ULTRA,
You commented you would not have a problem using Spectro instead of Redline......in your opinion what do you concidure a better oil to use other that the price difference.

Hey Wild!
Right now, my choice of oils is Mobil 1 20w50 V-Twin in the engine, Redline Transmission Oil w/ Shockproof, and Redline's V-Twin Primary Case Oil:
http://www.redlineoil.com/Products.aspx?pcid=13
I'm kind of "picky" about what lubes I use; but as many riders have stated any quality lubricant will do. If the local Wal-Mart ever stops handling the Mobil1 V-Twin, I would most likely just order the complete package of Redline products and not have a worry:
http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/product/RedLineOilBigTwin20W50Powerpack/Motorcycle_Red_Line_Oil_Powerpacks
Many riders use the above Powerpack kit, but with an '07 or newer Touring bike one has to order an extra bottle of the Primary Oil since they take 38oz.(US) for a refill.
Hope this helps!
Hey Ultra,
I was concidering Spectro but its a toss up between Redline and Spectro......Where I am Redline is available in many areas compared to Spectro.
So it may be the Redline......just not sure about the oil being thick as it is....how is your gear change when cold...does it clunk or click into gear.
Wild:
That was a definite concern when I first tried the Shockproof; was it too "thick" to safely operate during cold weather.
Redline's site states:
Have to say I can't tell a bit of difference in the RL vs. the Spectro. Both are excellent quality year round, and both provide nice smooth shift action.
Guess you would never know for sure unless you tried a quart of each. Either way, I don't think you'll be disappointed! I do know that the RL really "sticks" to components as witnessed once when I had the clutch end of the tranny apart replacing the cable.
HTHs!
ULTRA,
Didn't mean to call Spectro a mineral oil, just wanted to clarify what the HD Chaincase oil was because I could find any info on it.....Spectro site is very limited with technical info.
Anyway I have some Tranny and Chain case oil on the way...going to drop it in next service...
Thanks for the follow up.
