I am looking for some advice on a few extras for my 09 Road King Classic.

Cruising pegs; are they a good idea?

tall boy seat to give me some extra room as I am 6'3'

upgrade the motor to 103 cubes; test rode a 103 dyna and wow the power range is the tops

    Hi Lisa,

from my experience you cant really negotiate any deal until you lay down your deposit. Once thats done its all recommended retail for your bits but I did manage to get a jacket & helmet and 1700 discount. It will depend on what you are buying and how desparate they are for the sale.

If you're doing lots of touring I reckon Highway pegs are a must. Just allows you to move about a bit instead of being stuck in one position all the time while riding. Dunno about the tallboy seat but I have a sundowner on my softail and the deeper bucket is the ducks guts for comfort. I've had many a brother upgrade the stock engine to bigger cubes and unless it's done properly and set up just right you may have problem after problem. Maybe have a chat to Scotty.

Gruvy I have the same bike but 08 and I have the highway pegs. They are the HD ones that clamp on the crashbar. They are the basic bolt on ones that fold up when not in use, cost approx $150. Took a few ajustments to get right but they are excellent for stretching out on the longer rides. Another thing I changed was I removed the heel shifter on the gear change as I found that it restricted the backward movement of your left foot. HD sell a little chrome cover that goes over the shaft, once it's removed. Gives you the same amount of movement as the right foot. Never used the heel toe change much anyway as I was used to the Softail Standard set up.
As regards to the seat, I have considered changing myself but are waiting to see other Road Kings with different seats to see what they are like. Sheep skin or a gel seat might be the cheaper option. cheers

Thanks twincam, I have ordered some willie G pegs from the stealers, keeping with the theme. Having a look at a mustang regal another forum user has ordered for his bike. I like the look but some one has already suggested that it may push me into the tank. I damaged the nerves around the coxis so after a while the lip of the standard annoys it. As i said previously the stealers suggest the tall boy pushes that lip back 2" so that may be all I need but if I am spending $550 there has to be a better looking one that does the same. So I will keep looking, I might have to go through a few before I settle but it will be all worth it as I will be able to spend more time riding.

If'n ya got lower back problems Gruvy, a seat with a removable (and adjustable) backrest I found to be really good. My 03 Ultra deep saddle was great but a gel filled one would be better. Best thing was being able to stretch my right leg out (sciatica). I have crushed discs from L5 to S3, smashed my coccyx in three places and spurs pressing on nerves controlling my legs, so any prolonged position tends to agravate the problem. The backrest helped heaps cause I could stretch out on the highway pegs and push back to relieve the pressure on my spine for a while. I kept away from the knife for as long as possible but eventually had to get some work done which fixed some of the sciatica problems but I just can't do the long tours anymore. Hence I now have a softail to go on short cruises. Hope you find something to help you keep on the road comfortably

Hi Chips, thanks for the post. I have looked at a removable and adjustable back rest and it will cost almost as much as a new seat. I may yet go down that path. I have done over 9000k's with the standard and am willing to do a lot more until something comes up.  as stated before stretching out for me was sitting on the pillion seat, lol, must have been a sight, will have to wait and see. I will be making some sort of decision soon.
