Hi all,  I have just managed to buy myself my first Harley, a new 09 FXSTB Nightrain before they are discontinued, am very happy with my purchase but now feeling pretty poor and it will porbably take me a while to be able to afford things like pipes, aircleaner or power commander. As everyone knows stock mufflers just dont let out the sounds a good Harley should, I have read about drilling baffles and decided that it ain't worth trying, but wondered if it is possible to remove the muffler and then using wire or something pull the glass baffle wrap out, has anybody tried this and what did they sound like ??

IMO just wait till you can afford new pipes, keep the stock ones in good nick, never know might need them to remove a defect if you got one....

Ok thanks for the advice, I think I will just hold out for a pair of slip ons or a new system, do really like the V&H tracker 2 into 1.

Thanks Retsurht for offering up your S&S mufflers, can you tell me will they bolt stright onto a Nightrain, what style are they, tapered turbo or slash cut and do they have changable baffles oh and any scratches?

    Cheers

Be careful with V&H mate, they're bluddy expensive and you will need to also purchase quiet baffles for them. The standard V&H baffles are bluddy loud. Dunno about the tracker though. I gather you don't plan on carrying a passenger?

Ok - done a bit of shopping round and thinking, talking with my wife and we agree with most of you and will probably wait a while and get what I really want rather than fucking about changing slip ons and then wantimg something else anyhow.

So now the question is which system, am now looking for reccommendations/suggestions :
I would like a black ceramic system, will be touring with the wife - so no short pipes, I like the function of the Supertrapp but don't really like the look too much, I want a deep throaty rumble but don't want excessive noise, pc plods attention or a throbing head ache, I do like the slash cut & turn out look, Hooker trouble makers or V&H big radius ...

    ideas please

Hooker trouble makers IMO, however they aren't real quiet, but great pipes and cheap, but they are getting hard to find, I've heard hooker aren't making pipes anymore???...
