    Hi Jim76,

I just changed the gearbox oil on my 2008 Sportster using Harley Formula+

Really not an expensive oil and made for the job and you only need 946ml/950ml one bottle.

It does not require changing all that often not like engine oil.

Make sure you have the right torx tool to remove the clutch cover screws or you wiil round out the heads.

Keep the bike reasonably upright or oil will piss out when you take the cover off.

Measure out 950ml and poor it into the clutch area using a small funnel and hose.

Clean any oil from the o ring seal surfaces and put about 5 small dobs of silicone to hold in the seal for reassembly or it just keeps falling out and you wont know until it leaks.

Put a bit of anti sieze on the screw threads when you put them back and dont overtighten.

Put your cover back on run it up and check for leaks jobs done.

KC you might like to shift this info to the Sportster section ?

For the 5 speed tranny you can use one of the following: Penrite GAS 10, Castrol Activ 4T, Penrite SIN 25 or a GL-1 rated gear oil aswell as others.

For primary ATF fluid works fine (Dexron II) or Non friction modfied 5w 30, 10w 30, 10w 40 oil will also do the job.
