1. Was thinking of swapping out the original cables and brake hoses with braided gear but I remember someone saying you can be defected (by that cop that defects you if the wind changes) if they don't have an Australian compliance stamp. True or false and where can I get them?
2. I like to know whats going on with the bike when I ride, just as I do when I operate any vehicle. Thats me. I want to add a few gauges to the bike, i.e. volts, oil temp and pressure. Would like to handlebar mount them but I'm having trouble finding the gauges let alone the mounts. There used to be 'Micro gauges' out there about 1" diameter but the mount look shit. Anyone know of any aftermarket gauges (small) and mounts out there?
You can purchase ADR aprooved Braided brake lines here in Australia. The custom brake lines by EC Custom are road legal and manufactured by Goodridge. As for braided cables they dont need aprooval yet.
G'day magilla
Just done some research as I have just bought braided magnum brakelines for the fatty and didn't think about if it was legal or not, as it turns out it is.
According to Australian Government Motor Vehicles Guidelines 2006 ADR 7 (Hydraulic Brake Lines) under additional requirements - brake hoses marked as complying with SAE J1401 or
FMVSS 106 or DOT marking.
From what I see as long as the lines are marked with these compliances they are ok, which most reputable US brakeline makers are.
If you want a copy of these Guidelines PM me and I will send to you.
I would research this a little further. If you persay import a product into this country and put it on your bike and it is not legal then you have an accident, your insurer can get out of paying you. I was involved with the complying of braided brake lines in Australia from the beggining. After we got the ADR approval we still had to submit the testing data to each state transport department for approval. The legalities on brake lines are very complex. Goodridge has to test and batch number every brake line it builds in Australia. I would not want to pay for the people I killed at the pedestrian crossing because my cheap brake line failed to stop me. CTP will also look for a way out of paying out, leaving the person responsible to pay the bill.
